You might have the scent of food on your hand.I get this if I put my hand in the cage after preparing their food.

    Exercise Guinea pigs & water

I like your idea of an ice cube wrapped in fleece. Can you explain how you made this?

    Exercise Guinea pigs & water

I've just read a thread about guinea pigs and swimming. I wouldn't want to do that but when it is hot (weather wise) how would it be for guinea pigs to be in a waterproof area with say 1cm of water.

    General Anything else I need?

I would go along with spy9doc. Cheap household items can make ideal toys, not forgetting a cardboard toilet roll holder which can be used both as a play thing and to hide treats and hay. I also have a large(ish) stone in my cage for the piggies to gnaw on.

    General Anything else I need?

And a large container to put them in lol:rolleyes:. You'll be surprised how much one piggy can produce in such a short space of time.

    Bathing Bathing 2 boars

This might be a very odd question but here goes. My 2 boars are a bit whiffy and was considering bathing them. This will give them a fresh smell, so my question is, do Guinea Pigs use their sense of smell to identify their cage mate or do they do this by sight? I am worried that by bathing them...

General what is my guinea pig breed

She looks like Leonard, our Abyssinian guinea pig, in regard to size and fluffiness. Leonard is black with white areas

Play To play or not to play

I have 2 piggies, a large one (Sheldon) and a smaller one (Leonard). The smaller one is slightly younger by maybe a 2 to 3 weeks but both are less the 3 months old. Sometimes, and usually late evening, Sheldon will me eating hay while Leonard has a run around the cage. Every once in awhile while...

Sounds One of the Guinea Pigs rumbles/purrs alot

Our 2 piggies have been in the same cage now for almost a week. They seem to be getting along but one of them, I think the bigger one and one we have had longest, is making a rumbling/loud purring noise. He does this often during the day. There is no sign of aggression. I have tried to work out...

Introductions Bringing the Guinea pigs closer

We must have just got lucky. While they were in separate cages next to each other they showed no signs of aggression. There was some jumping and running but that was it. It is certainly worth a try.

Introductions Bringing the Guinea pigs closer

They introductions are taking place. Using a neutral area both piggies were put there at the same time with some hay in the middle and water bottles at each end. They had a minute or so looking around at the new environment then a couple of hours chasing, sniffing and mounting but no aggression...

Behavior How do I get my Guinea pigs to let me pick them up?

I don't have any problems with picking up either of my piggies but if I hold a bit of carrot under their nose it does seem to distract them and this would make it easier for me to grab, should the need arise. Only problem I can see with this method, especially with the older one, is that he's...

Introductions Bringing the Guinea pigs closer

@bpatters: I am looking through all those photos. There are a lot but I'm over halfway through. @Tobias2189: There will be 2 of us here when we do introductions. Most of the time we will both be watching but at some point I will be doing the cage while OH watches the piggies. They will not be...

    Behavior Wheeking for Attention?

One of my pigs Wheeks when he hears the fridge door being opened or when a supermarket plastic bag is rustled. Once he knows food is coming his way he stands by his bowl waiting for me to fill it up.

Introductions Bringing the Guinea pigs closer

Due to limited space we have a 3x2 cage and I will build a second level as well. I realise that this isn't ideal so need to think of how we can increase our space to accommodate a larger cage. My worry is that there will be problems with a 3x2 cage even with an upper level and I am prepared for...

Introductions Bringing the Guinea pigs closer

The introductions will be done out of the cage. I will do a thorough cage clean while the introductions are taking place.

Introductions Bringing the Guinea pigs closer

They are both young males. They seems to have quietened down now. The squeaking and running around in each others presence seems to have subsided. As you pointed out then next step is introductions but we need a spare day for this. One person will watch the piggies while I clean the cage. I...

Introductions Bringing the Guinea pigs closer

We have made the decision to moveour 2 piggies closer together. I partitioned the cage so they would be separated and there is a small length of the cage, about 18 inches, where they can actually see each other, touch noses but not bite as the holes in the cage wall is just too small. At first...
