    Rehoming Is it crazy?

Thanks. My fiance thinks I'm crazy for wanting to "require" so many things. He found someone who was willing to adopt one pig but not both and there is no way I'm willing to split them up. They have never even been away from mom, let alone each other. I just feel like the chances of a new...

    Rehoming Is it crazy?

Is it crazy to build the babies a new cage before rehoming them? I want them to go to someone who is aware of C&C and knows how big a cage should be for two piggies. I was thinking of just making another cage to go with them but I really don't have space for another (hence the rehoming). I...

Loss What do you do when...

I grew up on 11 acres WAY out of town. We buried our first two cats when they died. Until we realized that coyotes had dug up the graves.... My cousin and I were walking and she accidentally kicked what we later realized was my cat's skull.... It rolled a good 15 feet before we realized. So...

    Pigsitting Pet Sitter Horror Stories

After reading these stories I never want to leave me pets! i will have to figure out something for about a week though, I'm going to my sisters wedding out of state in July. I've left my dog once before for three nights. My mom came to baby sit and Jerry loves her so I knew they'd be fine. I've...

    Sad So Sad :(

I finally post an ad in GPZone to adopt out our baby girls :( I am SO sad to know they won't be with us but I know it's for the best. We truly do not have room for four pigs and the babies just keep getting bigger. Its so fun watching them grow and play. The popcorn like crazy! And after...

General Is it normal to be able to tell pigs poo apart?

I can tell my girl's droppings apart sometimes. Not all of the time though. Hustle is quite a bit larger and has larger droppings. Flo has smaller ones. And the babies have itty bitty droppings that are actually kinda cute :) If poo can be cute that is, lol

    Pregnancy pregnant piggy

I'm just glad that Hustle ended up with us instead of someone who might not be as well equipped or educated in guinea pigs to take care of her properly. This site has been beyond helpful to me. I honestly have been thinking of putting something along the lines of "you must do your research and...

    Pregnancy pregnant piggy

That is exactly what happened with us too. The worse part is that the owners also rehomed two other "female" pigs and at least one is obviously male. Which means that whoever got the other two pigs most likely also ended up with an unwanted pregnancy.

General How much do you spend on hay, pellets and veggies every month?

I'm in the US so I'm not sure how this will convert but with us now having four pigs we go through everything much faster. Veggies are probably $5 per week (this has essentially stayed the same with four pigs because before veggies went bad and we would waste some of them), one bag of locally...

    Pregnancy pregnant piggy

Good luck! She is very beautiful! one of our girls just had two pups and all were healthy and happy :) I was surprised at how fast they grow! Ours are 9 days old and already double the size of when they were born!

    Behavior "Abby-tudes"

I'm starting to notice that too! Not only is Flo much more laid back but she seems a bit more intelligent as well. Flo figures things out right away while Hustle just doesn't seem to get it. And both of Hustle's babies are Abys and they seem a bit slow. It could just be that they are still...

    Behavior "Abby-tudes"

Thank you! I ended up filling my entire photo memory of pig pictures within a month! It's a bit excessive, lol

    Behavior "Abby-tudes"

Hustle has a HUGE Abby-tude!! She is the loudest, hogs the veggies, pees in the food, sprayed my fiance in the face, steps on her babies, the center of attention, and is an over all diva. But that's exactly why I love her so much :D Flo is the opposite and she is a short hair. Quiet, mellow...

    Sexing HELP! Possibly Missexed

Can you post a picture of his/her belly? And maybe of his/her genitals? Someone may be able to help you determine the gender. And you probably wouldn't feel any babies moving until at least 6 weeks of being pregnant.

    Pregnancy pregnant piggy help/advice

To check the pelvic bone run your finger along her spine to the genital area (best way I can think to describe it), you'll feel the pelvic bones there. I first felt Hustle's pelvic bone two days before she gave birth and I thought we still had 1-2 weeks before they came so I didn't know it was...

Joy We Have Babies! Lots of photos included

I can tell when she's nursing. She was legitimately stepping on their faces and backs with their little faces smooshed into the ground. When I notice this happening I try to nudge her off of them so they don't get hurt. She's been really good about cleaning them and letting them nurse. And we...

    General Holding Momma Pig?

Thank you for your help! We've been holding the babies to get them used to people and they have started crying out to Hustle more lately. At first they didn't really seem to care. But now momma and babies both seem to be distressed by it so I think I may handle the babies less until mom can come...

Shelters I'm planning to foster piggies,

I don't know if it works for animal cages but Nature's Miracle is the BEST cleaning product for fabric I've ever used. I initially got it because my mom's cats used to urinate on my bed. It got the smell and stains out. We now use it on everything. I had a set in red wine stain on a cream dress...

Sounds How loud are guinea pigs?

It will vary depending on your pig, how often there are people around, etc. One of our girls, Flo, rarely makes noise and when she does its a very low volume with an EXTREMELY high pitched whistle tossed in every once in a while at veggie time. Hustle on the other hand is extremely vocal and...
