Behavior Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

I feel the same way! My dog & cats are far easier...cheaper & less time consuming ...than my guinea pigs!

Behavior Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

Also, your plastic storage container isn't wide enough. They need width as much as length...at 20 inches, that's not even the equivalent of 2 grids wide....it would be like living in a narrow, short hallway.

Behavior Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

Interestingly enough in some countries it's illegal to own just one guinea pig, so you're outnumbered in your assessment that they are "just rodents" and content as a loner. Let's not play games...if you had difficulty with mashing pellets, I highly doubt you went through the labor intensive...

Behavior Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

If you are still syringe/force feeding you need to use a product formulated for the special diet and nutritional needs of guinea pigs. Critical Care by Oxbow is recommended because it has the correct balance of nutrients needed for an animal who is not consuming enough on their own and is hay...

    General Post neutering question.

Good luck to both you and him! Keep us posted on how he is doing. I also can't wait to hear about how it goes when he finally gets to meet the ladies. Neutering usually goes well and sometimes the hardest part is just finding a competent vet who has the experience to perform the surgery.

    General Post neutering question.

I have had 2 boars neutered. The first had some slight complications due to a reduction in his eating & drinking on day 3 through about day 7...but we had critical care and pedialyte on hand. He bounced back and is now a happy, healthy 3 year old who has lived with up to 11 females in a room...

General My guinea pig upper front teeth kinda thick

You need to provide your guinea pig with good quality hay, not alfalfa, for your almost 1 year old female. Timothy and orchard hays are good choices. I can't see her being able to even eat compressed hard hay with her teeth missing like that. You need to provide your guinea pig with 1 cup of...

General My guinea pig upper front teeth kinda thick

I am hoping we can help you figure out what is happening so we can assist you in problem solving the issue that is causing the tooth issues. I realized you posted recently regarding another of your guinea pigs who sadly passed (I am sorry for your loss) recently due to broken teeth in this...

Introductions Introducing a male guinea pig to my two females

I'm not seeing anything in your post about your females being spayed nor the male being neutered. If they are not fixed then it would be a horrible idea to introduce these 3 year old females to any male as a pregnancy would likely happen. A 3 year old female who has had no prior births would...

    Behavior New pups, need help!

Make sure you not only separate the adult male and female, but you also remove any male pups at 21 days from any females (including mom).

Pregnancy Pregnancy Watch With Overdue Momma

I am sorry you feel that I was rude, as that was not my intention...just dealing with facts and trying to help you out with the questions you asked. Your pictures clearly show a narrow cage, not a 6x6 (perhaps a 2x6? ...Which is good for mom and babies if they have all that room and it's not...

Pregnancy Pregnancy Watch With Overdue Momma

What size is the cage? Brand and or measurements? A mom and babies should not be housed in a cage considered sized as temporary. They need a large cage suitable for several guinea pigs. Many vets still consider pet store cages adequate and they are not...trust me on this... I'm not trying to...

Pregnancy Pregnancy Watch With Overdue Momma

I recommend to all waiting for their pregnant mothers to deliver to limit their anxiety waiting for the babies by instead focusing on making sure the new babies have the best chance for survival and a healthy beginning. Limit handling the mom near the end because all you will do is stress her...

    Play Baby Stacking Cups?

I would recommend just getting small paper lunch bags or asking for the free paper bags they put wine bottles in at the grocery store check out lanes. If they have glue at the bottom just tear that portion off. Then stuff them with hay (add a variety ...mine love oat hay), herbal mixes and...

Sad Very nervous piggies not great pets would I be terrible to change one for a baby?

As everyone else has said, guinea pigs are not like cats and dogs who come when called and hop in your lap... that's not a guinea pig. Guinea pigs generally get more calm and easier to handle the older they get, so getting a baby will not meet your expectations. I am concerned about you having...

Bonding I want to add a 4th female guinea pig to a bonded trio

If you add a loft, please make it at minimum a 2x2 and consider two ramps. This will prevent squabbling from a pig getting trapped in the loft area. You will find oftentimes when you add a loft that suddenly a favorite place to lay will be the top or bottom access of the ramp. :) The reason I...

Bonding I want to add a 4th female guinea pig to a bonded trio

It all depends on the personality of the new female, proper introductions, and most importantly the size of your cage. Most people who have issues try to rush the process and don't plan out the need for a larger cage (be prepared that you may have to go wider, as well as longer). Don't settle...

    Pregnancy Rescue Pigs Pregnancy Journey

Thank you so much for the update. Loved the pictures. I am sorry to hear about Gus. I hope the best for little Percy! He's a fighter and I can't wait to hear more updates on his progress. It's funny...our house went from 2 to 12 guinea pigs all because of 2 additional rescues who we adopted...

Bonding Is It Too Late To Get Another Guinea Pig?

My concern is the cage size. What type and size exactly is the cage? Depending on personality of your current pig and any new pig a cage "With just enough space for two!" may be too crowded even though it meets the bare minimum. I had a sow who was very territorial and needed a wider cage to...
