Loss Three of my Guinea pigs died today

So terribly sorry. I realise your post was not meant to be a PSA about piggies and heatstroke - but it is. And maybe your post will save other piggies lives. Thank you for being brave to share your story with us and just know that you still have two piggies who will need your love and comfort...

    Bonding Falling Out??

So interestingly enough, my boys had been fighting as well. Ever since I got the females (they are in a 2x5 cage next to Ron's 2x4 cage.. So I put Harry Potter in a separate cage until I could build him an adjoining C and C. Today was the big day. I figured since they would have their own space...

Exercise How many times/ how long should he be out every day?

You sound like an awesome GP owner! You also might think about getting him a friend. Be sure to check your cage size requirements of course.

    Bonding Falling Out??

Also did you try reintroducing them on neutral ground? Not in their cages but in a room like a large bathroom where you can sit and each them?

Frustrated Guinea Pigs in the Classroom - an alternative point of view :)

I guess in those situations you lead with your heart. I do not lack compassion for kids or piggies. I think I would figure it out. Again, I wanted to get concrete evidence from eerts, not "what if" scenarios. I am am curious to know, if this year goes well, are any of you open to changing your...

    Fleece Has anyone used Zorb?

When you used Uhaul pads, did you use two layers? I use two layers and I get no odor for 7-8 days.

    Behavior Won't eat carrots?

I think it is hilarious to see how picky they are! All of mine love carrots but Harry Potter won't touch cucumbers while Ron Weasley eats them like there is no tomorrow. I just think their food preferences are a cool aspect of their personalities - I love that about GPs!

Frustrated Guinea Pigs in the Classroom - an alternative point of view :)

As far as the question about the piggies getting sick during the day, my question for anyone would who works would be - what if that happened to you while you are at work? How would you know? What would you do? I guess I would remove the piggie from its cage so as not to traumatize the class...

    Photos Photos of my herd

My mom died of breast cancer when she was 42. This is an awesome way to show your support. Some of these photos would make great greeting cards! I'd buy them!!

Frustrated Guinea Pigs in the Classroom - an alternative point of view :)

I just found out that a rescue organization out of Iowa has a program where classrooms foster piggies until they find their forever families. I think there are so many differing opinions on this topic and while we may not all agree on every detail of piggies lives, I think we DO all agree here...

Frustrated Guinea Pigs in the Classroom - an alternative point of view :)

Some excellent points raised here - I will talk with my colleagues about how to feed / care for the piggies in the event that I am sick. Kids won't be allowed to touch the piggies if I am not there. These are great points and something I will include in my class rules and my GP care plan.

Frustrated Guinea Pigs in the Classroom - an alternative point of view :)

I wasn't asking for permission. I was asking for input. My concern being mostly about guinea pigs biting children. I did want to offer up an alternative point of view to your community and it appears as though many of the replies here have been supportive. I see that you are an administrator of...

Behavior New piggy owner in desperate need of guidance.

I would absolutely suggest getting a companion. I am new to the guinea pig world also - but my piggies LOVE each other and frolic all over each other. They are so fun to watch. If finding a piggie up for adoption that is female and young is hard for you (I found that too), you might try checking...
