Wow guys, I really appreciate the advice! Feeling much calmer about the trip now, though I'm giggling over the fact that the pigs are likely going to have a designated cooler all their own for their snacks!!! LOL This is the first cross country move I've ever made... previous to this the...
Re: Time to Euthanize?
I am so sorry to hear about Doodle... I agree with bpatters. It may be time to have that quality of life discussion with your veterinarian. You have to consider whether or not you are needlessly prolonging his suffering. If the prognosis is bleak, it may be time to...
Ah. I see. Okay, well, I don't have a C&C cage... it is the eventual goal for when I get settled, but for now their Pen works. SO easily portable! I understand the reasoning for not using a water bottle, but will the wet veggies be sufficient enough to keep them hydrated for so long?
Good lord, 20 hours? Those are some well traveled pigs! LOL how many times have you done that?! And they ride to the vet in a cat carrier with a towel on the bottom, but since they've never been on a long trip, I thought that the familiar cage would be a comfort for them...
I have been transferred for my job, and will be moving from Austin, TX to St. Louis, MO in mid August. Going to have to drive it. I'll be in a small SUV with two cats, a 50 lb dog, a sun conure and my two boys, Phobos & Deimos. The dog and the bird have done car trips before and do very well...
Uhhhh... Don't do that anymore. I bought a second playpen so it's completely closed in. My boys figured out how to escape. Got home from work one day and Deimos was sitting in the middle of the room, just staring at me.
My boys have a pet store cage where I put them if I need to, but most of their time is spent in their playpen in my living room. I can't get a C&C cage right now, I need something that can be disassembled and moved around (and able to change shape) easily. In this case, I just lay out a shower...
So... with spring coming quickly here in Central Texas, I'm making my boys a Grazing Garden! I already have a wide barrel planter, organic soil, lettuce, marigolds, basil, parsley, kale and oregano for their grazing garden, and I'm just waiting for sod to come out of their dormant state for...
What are you treating for? Advantage treats fleas, and fleas only... Advantix treats other parasites, but I don't know if it is safe for guinea pigs. I know Revolution is... And again, make sure it is the puppy/kitten dose, in the pink box... That's what I used when my boys had lice and it...
I'm in a one bedroom apartment, and I have 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 sun conure, a 20 gal fish tank, a 1 gallon split betta tank, and my two pigs. My mom keeps telling me that I'm turning into the "crazy cat lady who has more than cats" and that I don't need to buy a house, I need a ranch. And I'm cool...
Speaking from the veterinary side, I can assure you that this was NOT your fault. The choice you made was in the best interest of ALL your pigs. Things happen. They can't be predicted or anticipated, they just ARE. And I also know that the veterinarian is feeling the same guilt you are...
You'd be surprised just how dangerous it can be... my mom let out her 12 pound dog, a maltese, to go to the bathroom, and right in front of her, an owl swooped in and tried to carry her away. Thank God, the owl didn't manage to get a good grip! The dog was thrown into the air and did a couple...
Re: Light red/pink urine? Picture attached?
I would definitely have Doodle checked. I'm not as familiar with guinea pigs, so I'm quite intrigued by people suggesting that certain veggies could change urine color, but with dogs and cats, pink/red urine is usually a sign of blood in the urine...
My boys don't like zucchini either!!! They come running all excited, sniff and nibble, and then act insulted. They want their cucumber, and they're not happy when I switch if for the evil twin!!!!
