Yes, they are legal in my state. They are not legal, however, in most of the states around me.

I personally think leaving them alone for a bit of the day is better than having them freeze at night or escape or eat poison... ect. And no offense, but I think your being a tad dramatic there with the whole fire thing. But I would probably be scared to leave my piggies on their own too =D

Most definately! I would first tell them what the previous posters mentioned about your pig needing a buddy. Then talk to them about the importance of rescuing. Make sure you have solid and sound facts -just don't give a huge lecture that goes on for hours; Try to condence it all down into about...

Are you adopting this new pig? If so, I would recomend asking the person you are adopting him from if they can hang on to him until you get back.

It doesn't matter which countries are overpopulated. Let's say someone from Canada* was planning to adopt a shelter guinea pig from the USA but then it dies because the Canadian* changed his/her mind and got a pig from a local breeder. * I have nothing against Canadians. This was just an example :)
