Stands Can this table support a cage?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I think hubby and I will be taking a little trip to Ikea in the next few weeks :) Lissie, it is kind of short, but we won't have space for another dining table in the place we're moving to. With this, I can sit on my little ottoman and not have to bend down...

Stands Can this table support a cage?

I'm getting a little tired of bending to clean, so I was thinking of using the Lack coffee table from Ikea (the larger size, which is 46"x31") to raise it up a little. I haven't seen these in person though, and the nearest Ikea is kind of a ways from me. Before I waste my time going out there...

    Grids 13" 8X8 holes

Perhaps you could double up the grids, and off-set them so as to halve the size of the hole?

    Fleece Digging Solution

My boys are were obsessed with burrowing under the fleece to hang out. The loved the warmth and the security, but I hate how hard it is to clean up their poops when they go under. I finally got enough binder clips and chip clips to keep them out, but I felt bad because they really seemed to miss...

    How Important Is Lap Time?

Thanks for all your feedback guys. I thought I'd post a quick update on how things are going. We are starting to make progress! I've been working diligently on using specific words, and they now understand that "Oi oi oi!" means food time, that "scritches" means that I just want to pet them...

    Introducing Pigs to Floor Time

Do you have any grids left over? I use left over grids and a couple of large boxes to block off two sides of the floor time area. For the other two sides I just use walls in a corner of the room. What worked for me was an area roughly equivalent to a 3x4.5 cage. It's big enough that I can sit...

    Size 3x3 vs. 2x4

I've been playing around with future cage plans, and I have a quick question. Would a 3x3 cage be as good as a 2x4 one? It'd be 9 square grids in area, one bigger than a 2x4, so there's more area. But it's not as long, so I'm not sure if they'll be able to run laps.

    How Important Is Lap Time?

Good to know Sirene, I'll try picking up a clicker. I hope my boys don't end up scared of the sound. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that prey animals are more likely to be scared of sounds like that because it sounds like a twig breaking, and makes them think something might be sneaking up...

    How Important Is Lap Time?

Thanks for the feedback Sirene, it's something to consider. My boys hate being touched at all. They'll flee at the sight on an approaching hand, unless it has food in it. They will, however, come up and sniff my hand if I just hold it still. But if they understand words, perhaps they can be...

    How Important Is Lap Time?

My boys hate lap time. Being picked up for lap time freaks them out, whether I scoop them up with my hands, lure them into a cardboard box "elavator", use a towel, whatever. And once they're on my lap they'll freeze in utter panic for a new minutes, and then start squirming to get off my lap...

    Soiling Their Hay

Thanks for your response Deb :) It's good to know that they're normal LOL. How often do you have to change the litter box? I was doing it every time I gave them more hay, but I think 4 times a day is a bit much. Would once a day still be okay?

    Soiling Their Hay

I have a wire box that I use as a hay rack attached to the corner of the cage. Right underneath it is a triangular litter box. At first it worked well. The boys would nibble on the hay while doing their business, and the litter box would catch their droppings. But a couple of days ago, I found...

    Size Is This Too Small?

I can't make the width any wider because it's constrained on that side by a big, heavy bookshelf that my friends I can't move even if we empty it out. However, by dint of moving the TV over I can add an extra four inches to the length. I'm not great at math, but that should make it almost...

    Size Is This Too Small?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try adding an upper level and, if the boys don't like it, I'll take it down so they'll have more room to run around in. I'm home right now in the daytimes, so I'll give them as much floor time as I can to make up for the smaller space. As for pics of my...

    Size Is This Too Small?

After my last girls passed away a few years ago I decided not to get any more guinea pigs for a number of reasons, one of them being that I've since moved into a new place that hasn't got enough room for a room mate, a cat and guinea pigs. I missed having them, but I have to do what's best...

    Housing help please

Mebbe if you could sketch out a rough floor plan of your place we could offer suggestions? Then again, if you don't want to, I'd understand that too. It may be a bit personal to spill out on the web lol. If its a long, skinny space, could you have it against one end of the space?

    Cutting grids..

Thanks for the feedback, Cavylove! I'll try to keep the cuts flush with the wires to prevent scratches and snagging. To be on the safe side tho, I was going to put slide'n'grip binding bars over the edges.

    Cutting grids..

Has anyone tried to cut a grid? What sorts of tools would one need for it? Is it just heavy duty wire cutters or is there something else? This not for the regular grids, but for the Linnens'n'Things mesh grids, if that makes any difference to the answers.

    Eglus?

Thanks for your advice. I think I'll go with a c&c enclosure. Do you think that wooden hidey holes will be cooler for them? I'd like them to have a place to go if they want to get out of the sun for a few moments, and where I can keep their water out of the sun too. We don't have foxes here...

    Eglus?

I'd like to give my piggies a little outdoor playtime/grazing time while the weather is good. While i was looking into various arrangements when I came across the eglu: (http://www.omlet.co.uk/products_services/products_services.php?view=Guinea%20Pigs) It actually seems pretty good, and I like...
