Ramps Won't travel between levels in two story cage.

How high should the sides be? 1 inch? 2?

Ramps Won't travel between levels in two story cage.

Have three GPs. Built a two story, 48 inch by 60 inch C&C cage. I built a ramp out of 1 x 6 inch pine, and covered it with commercial low pile carpet. The distance that the ramp covers when connecting levels spans 3/4 of the 48 width of the cage, so it's not so steep. The problem is that the...

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

How do you know when you need to add more? There is clean hay on the bottom of the cage, but they seem to eat more when you put out fresh. I add fresh twice per day, and make sure that there is a decent pile for them to chow on.

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

Someone asked if I was feeding hay. I give them a decent amount of hay twice per day. Veges (on the approved list) twice a day, or more often if I see that they've eaten everything. Organic leaf lettuce, swiss chard, blueberries, cranberries, tomatoes, occasional baby carrots, cucumbers...

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

I responded about the toys because Seonta asked me about this in her post on this topic (see above). "But since they are digging in the other food bin they still might empty out a ceramic bowl. Do they have any other toys?" How do you respond to someone's question in a topic if it's off...

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

Feeding Cavy Cuisine, as recommended by this site. Thanks for the info about feeding portions. I haven't weighed them yet. I'm guessing that they're two to five years old. They're adults.

Feet Just picked up rescued pigs. Growth on foot.

It doesn't seem to be into the foot. It's all at the end of the nail, so that's one good thing. Vet sounds like a good idea. R

Feet Just picked up rescued pigs. Growth on foot.

Closer examination shows that the tumor is really a coiled up toenail that never got trimmed. I can;t see the quick since the nail is black, and I don't want to hurt the guy by trimming something that I'm not supposed to.

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

It was a small plastic bowl. I just replaced it with a stainless steel dog bowl. They won't turn that over.

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

What do you suggest for toys? I have a piece of 4 inch PVC as a tunnel, and a piece of wood. Nothing else. Rog

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

I have no idea how old these guys are, and I provide free access to pellets. Do I need to only feed a bit, and then take it away? The first GP that arrived had a bin that gave 24 /7 access to pellets. Rog

Great idea for a floor time area.

One question. If your cage is as big as this pool, do you need to do floortime? Thanks Rog

Pellets How do you feed pellets?

My GPs are dumping pellets all over the place, and wasting a ton of dry food. I'm buying the Cavy Cuisine, so wasting this stuff is costing a huge amount of money. The two GPs that arrived here had a small cat bowl for pellets. The two guys completely tip the bowl over, scattering the...

Vet Has the site assembled a list of recommended vets?

Has this site assembled a list of vets with whom forum members have had good experiences? It would be great to be able to consult a list of vets who have GP experience, and have produced good results for members. That would at least give newcomers like me a starting place to locate competent...

Feet Just picked up rescued pigs. Growth on foot.

Don't think it's a spur. The flesh from which it's made is not dry and flaky. It's real skin. Also, is there anything else I should watch for during the quarantine period? I see a bit of scratching, but nothing serious. Fur looks healthy on both. Rog

Feet Just picked up rescued pigs. Growth on foot.

I just picked up two GPs that were adopted out by a private family. The pigs looked well cared for, and seem to be in good shape. They're active, eating very well (gave them some leaf lettuce, a strawberry and some fresh hay). Their fur looks healthy, and I don't see any skin issues or fur...

    Sorry. Bale. Typo.

Hay How to buy a bale of hay.

Check around horse stables. Horse people are very picky about hay quality. Any decent stable will have what you need, and I'll bet that they would sell you a bail.

Adopt vs. Buy How do you know a rescue is on the level?

Thanks. Nice response. I just read the article.

Adopting a second pig. What to look for?

Just discovered the search function, and found a piece on introductions and quarantine. So please ignore those questions. The questions about rescues vs private parties stands however. Thanks
