Ratties Rescued Rat Isnt Handtame Please Help

So a few months ago I brought home a pair of rats from our local shelter. They were born there and there was no time to hand tame them there. They were the last of their litter, seniors. People don't adopt rats in this town. So anyway, I brought home the pair, but after about a month the...

    General Depressed Guinea Pig

Our Guinea Pig, Wally, has been very depressed since his buddy Gobo passed away in December. I have moved him into the living room so he can have more interaction with us, but he still seems quite sad. Getting another pig is not an option- Wally is older now, and the last of 4, and when he is...

Special Needs Sick guinea pig help

While my husband and I were away, our son's old guinea pig had maybe a stroke. When I looked in on him yesterday I realized that he is emaciated, has limited mobility, and is now blind. He has sores on his feet from sitting in his own urine. I decided to bring him to our local humane society...

Rabbits Local shelter overrun with rabbits!

There are some regular sized dwarf rabbits, but the big ones are probably 20-25lbs each. I asked about putting up an outdoor area for them so they could be out during the day, but vandals would destroy and steal it during the night. We have cleared out one of the cat rooms and moved half the...

Rabbits Local shelter overrun with rabbits!

None of the nearby rabbit rescues have any space so we are caring for them as best we can. Problem- the rabbit room is small, some of the rabbits are very big and none have cages big enough. Suggestions for an enclosure to accommodate around 25 rabbits, mostly the larger breeds, in a small space?

Tumor Deciding if surgery is the right choice

We are up north.there are exactly 4 vets within a 5 hour drive of us, and none are experienced with small animals. I know because I called and asked once when I had a sick rabbit. So this is the only option we have.

Tumor Deciding if surgery is the right choice

Our favorite guinea pig, RC, has a tumour like growth on his side/belly. It is quite bad and started bleeding yesterday, so today, we took him in to see the vet. We hoped it was an abscess. The vet told us he feels tissue inside and is concerned that it could be either a mammary tumour or a...

Cleaning bed sheets for easier cleaning?

I like the shower curtain idea, I may just try that instead of a sheet! Pigglelove, I use safe shavings, no worries there. The problem I have with fleece, and maybe it's because they are boys, but their poops STINK. So when we were using fleece, they would instantly poop on the fleece the...

Cleaning bed sheets for easier cleaning?

I am going to expand the Wheekers 2x4 into a 3x5, and since my children are the ones who clean the cage I was thinking of ways to make it easier to clean when they won't be able to reach all the way across anymore. We use pine shavings because we couldn't make fleece work for use. So I was...

C&C So crazy it just might work.

The main problem we have with our c&c cage is the floor space it takes up. In a house with 6 people, 2 dogs and 3 little guinea pigs, you can imagine how that might be a problem. Our house has 2 fireplaces that are not in use, the bottom is just sitting empty, blocked off from the chimney so it...

I'm going to give it a try! I'll update more when I have a plan :)

General What if I grew a grass box for them?

I have this litterbox for hay for my wheekers. It suddenly occurred to me that maybe I could plant a litter box with grass, like an indoor lawn for them. Their droppings would self-fertilize it and i could have 2 or 3 of these to rotate so when one gets short, we can move on to the next and...

    Fleece Vaccuming/sweeping help!

We are moving our pigs into a refurbished chinchilla cage, so our fleece is a whole fleece blanket, until I can get some coro and find the time to sew fleece flippers. I will try the bricks, and that attachment and if those don't work well enough iI will buy that bissel. Thanks for the good...

    Fleece Vaccuming/sweeping help!

I find it so frustrating when trying to sweep or vacuum the fleece, it shifts around or gets sucked up the vacuum hose, and the little poos all just roll away. So aggravating, especially when I am trying to get my 10 year old to do it, she gets really aggravated. So how do you stop your fleece...

    I still miss you, George

George passed away about a month ago, he was really sweet and gentle. We have 3 other piggies, but George was my favorite. I didn't think I had gotten that attached to him, but today I am really missing him! He was Gobos buddy, and he had this long hair that was so silky and had crazy...

    Sounds Chirping

We use both floors equally. They get lots of interaction. Of the 3, only RC seems to be really interested in people, Gobo and Wally wheek their heads off for food, but don't enjoy being touched at all. It's too bad because Gobo has lonnng hair and needs regular grooming, which he does not enjoy.
