Hay Where to get hay in southern california?

So I have recently moved to southern California, Irvine specifically, and I was wondering where to buy hay locally. I don't mind driving a bit but not to, to far. I get third cut hay from KMS, and I'd really like something comparable to that quality. Any thoughts?

Using piggie pee and poop in the garden as fertilizer

So we compost most of ours poop and hay sweepings (but we bed on fleece over uhaul so I can't help with your questions about the wood) I find that it along with my veggie ends breaks down pretty quickly, and it makes amazing compost. It's my first year of using it in soil for my garden, and the...

Pigsitting So I'm moving and not sure what to do with my pigs while I try to sell my house

It's a dining room table, and it wouldn't be moved up or down at all. Also either way they are going to be moved into a midwest cage just for practicality. They are going to end up at my moms it looks like, and I'll be going over a couple times a week to check in on them. On a side not as soon...

Pigsitting So I'm moving and not sure what to do with my pigs while I try to sell my house

The fosters and her dogs would never have any supervised access to the guinea pigs, they all get fed in their crates, I just worry about the noise and her twice weekly late meetings. My husband isn't so hot at taking care of the piggies. He doesn't sweep daily when he's on his own and he never...

Pigsitting So I'm moving and not sure what to do with my pigs while I try to sell my house

My husband got a job in Southern california, woohoo! We currently live in las vegas, so the actual transportation of the guinea pigs isn't stressing me much. it's a 4 hour drive and I'll make frequent stops to give them lettuce and other water rich veggies. And we plan to move them in a xL close...

General Do dogs hurt guinea pigs?

It all depends on the dog, and the dog being introduced to guinea pigs for the first time may be very excitable but chill and mellow once he/she is used to this strange new creature in their house. My dog loves the guinea pigs (a Jack Russel-min. poodle mix with a high prey drive), but some...

Other dog won't eat. Need help!

So I have a random suggestion, my dog is a super picky eater. She's been on a million different foods on the full spectrum of quality. The trick I used to get her to eat, was a little bit of bacon or hamburger grease (Just save it in an empty can or how ever you usually do.d Then every morning...

Cleaning Does anyone else have a High Efficiency washer?

Sadly if you can't fix it yourself, it doesn't make sense to keep a washer that you have to keep calling in someone to repair and is damaging the rest of your house. All the animals had to be boarded while we had the massive fans going and I've had to replace all my kitchen flooring and laundry...

Cleaning Does anyone else have a High Efficiency washer?

Thanks. I'll try some of these. I haven't used bleach on my fleece, but I'll try the oxiclean and detergent this weekend and see how it goes. I think i'll just have to stick with smaller loads for guinea pig stuff. And maybe do a longer soak.

Cleaning Does anyone else have a High Efficiency washer?

Well we did repair it... 4 times, and after $600 dollars repairs over 2years and having to replace the linoleum in my laundry room and my kitchen floors because it flooded the house one night I said enough. We still have the dryer, and I intend to keep it until it dies, but I hate that saying...

Cleaning Does anyone else have a High Efficiency washer?

Well it's good to know that I'm not the only one having this problem, but getting rid of it isn't really an option... and I actually like that it's gentler on my clothes than the old agitator. I also really love the low water usage- like I said I live in a desert and anyway I can conserve water-...

Cleaning Does anyone else have a High Efficiency washer?

So I just got a brand new washing machine (our nearly 20 year old one finally went kaput) and I was super excited when we got this shiny new, high efficiency low water one, because hey I live in the desert- water efficient was my number one priority in a new washer. The things been great on our...

    Hay What hay to buy

I buy my hay 50lbs at a time now, and I just leave it in the garage. Every two weeks or so I fill up a big 18gal. bin with holes drilled into the side (For air flow) and bring it into the house. It looks a bit nicer than a big cardbaord box of hay, and cuts down on bug issues. You'll go through...
