I can lay some loose on the floor of the cage. However, most of it ends up on the floor anyway by the end of the day because he picks through it and discards what he doesn't want (which is everything but the flowery tips). I'll try laying out some fresh and see how he reacts to that.
Our 3 year-old guinea pig has decided he ONLY likes the flowery tops of the strands of hay. He selectively pulls these flowery pieces out of his hay rack, eats the flowery head, then lets the rest of the piece fall to the floor. The majority of the hay gets left on the floor of his habitat or...
We are returning in a couple of days from an 8-day trip. A responsible teen boy in the neighborhood has been going to our house to feed and care for Pebbles while we have been gone. What do you believe is an appropriate amount to pay a guinea pig sitter? This is the first time we have hired a...
A very responsible teen neighbor will be pet sitting our guinea pig next week while we are away. We have previously boarded Pebbles at a local pet shop, but they have recently had to stop boarding mammals due to a change in city ordinance, so this will be our first time having someone come to...
Indeed...we dont actually let him climb on our shoulders while we are standing up. I should have clarified that this is while we are reclining or lying down, and we always have a hand on him petting him.

We have had our adopted guinea pig for a couple of months now. I have not had a guinea pig since I was a kid, so I am still learning about their behavior and care. We often take Pebbles out of his habitat and hold and pet him while we are watching a movie or just relaxing. When we do this, he...
My daughter and I went to a neighborhood garage sale this weekend, and as I started to drive past a house, I noticed something out in front that looked like cage grids. I stopped to take a look because they looked very much like the grids we have for our new C&C cage. It turns out that they are...
I had been using fleece in the main "living" area of our new C&C cage, and shredded paper bedding (Kaytee Clean and Cozy) in the kitchen/litterbox area (we have the Cavy Cafe). I liked the Kaytee bedding because it was absorbent and seemed to control odors well. It was also fairly easy to...
Thanks for those tips. I do have a couple that are pilled up pretty badly, but the others do have a smooth, silky texture. I will use those as a practice run before deciding if I need to buy a better quality.
Yes, my youngest son is 9, so mine are almost as old as yours, and they still work well. I think I have used them more often for other purposes than for bedwetting prevention! I never thought I would be planning to use them in a guinea pig cage, though!
So is that all you use...the...
Has anyone used anything like this as a layer underneath the fleece? The product description says sheet sets, but they are not sheets. They are waterproof pads for a baby or young child's crib, bed, etc. I used these when my kids were little, and I still have several that I use all the time...
In reading through these forums, I see that materials such as wood pellets, towels, and U-Haul blankets are popular choices to use as an absorbent layer under fleece. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is shredded paper bedding under the fleece. I know many use paper exclusively as the only...
