Behavior Question(s) on Newly Adopted Pigs

The boys were surrendered today and, as suspected, both of them have URIs. I'm glad they could get the medical care they needed and I know that I don't have the strength to care for two sick pigs so soon after I lost Arthur. But they're on antibiotics and they'll get better. I wish them all the...

Behavior Question(s) on Newly Adopted Pigs

Yeah, these guys have slept far more than they've been up and about. There are toys in the cage (a timothy hay carrot and a knot nibbler) and I've barely seen them touch the two. Well, as hard as it is on me -- maybe the reason we got these pigs was to see that they were ill and that they did...

Behavior Question(s) on Newly Adopted Pigs

Well, given Tyrion's behavior -- the rescue said to bring them back since it sounds like Tyrion is ill and was ill when he came home with us. They've been at the rescue about a month and I know they have about 30 pigs at the rescue right now so there may be something going through the herd. I'm...

Behavior Question(s) on Newly Adopted Pigs

How active should boars at about the 11 month/1 year mark be out of curiosity.

Behavior Question(s) on Newly Adopted Pigs

LOL. That's how it was with Arthur -- more for the refrigerator opening than anything else. The bag rustling we do is their food/hay bag and it doesn't sound anything like anything else in the house bag-wise. The boys are slightly older than we were told -- looks like they're about 11 months...

Behavior Question(s) on Newly Adopted Pigs

Awesomeness. Thanks for the help and advice. I appreciate it. I never realized how stressful two boys could be -- especially as we're figuring each other out.

Behavior Question(s) on Newly Adopted Pigs

Whelp -- adoption was successful and I'm happy to introduce Winter and Tyrion! (Tyrion is on the right; Winter the left. And we've already seen Tyrion be an imp... and Winter is much more chill -- so accurate names) It's been quite some time since I had babies (they're 9 months old and...

    Adopting Adopting after a Death

Well, we are seeing the two boys tomorrow and hopefully all goes well. They're both about 9 months old and are litter mates so come as a bonded pair. This is my first time with two pigs as Arthur would have NOTHING to do with other pigs. Is there anything to be wary of transporting them home? I...

    Adopting Adopting after a Death

Yup. One of them is the one I've been dealing with who had a family emergency and we haven't heard from since.

    Behavior Moving his house!

Arthur used to whack things around with his nose. We used to call it a bit of feng shui. It's hilarious when they move things and then manage to block their food dish with their house then look at you with a "mom, I need help!" Only to do it again 10 minutes later!!

    Adopting Adopting after a Death

Still waiting to go see this pair of boars. The guy who runs the rescue had a family emergency (we found out halfway down there) and haven't heard anything since. It's hard because there aren't many rescues around me that have pigs I've found, especially since I'm hoping to find a younger pair. :/

Behavior Guinea pig ALWAYS wants laptime

I know mine who passed recently loved lap time with me. How I would get him to not be scared of me is every time I'd put fresh pellets in or hay in his cage I'd rustle bags loudly. Enough to get him to come see the noise and what was going on. Before long, he was coming to the side of the cage...

    Adopting Adopting after a Death

This helps a lot, thanks. We just heard from the rescue -- the boys are 9 months old and were the product of improper sexing of the parents. I'm definitely getting a pair this time. And setting up an appointment to meet these two boys. I know it's going to be hard, but like you said spy9doc, I...

    Adopting Adopting after a Death

I'm at a bit of a cross-roads and don't quite know what to do. I lost my sweet piggie about a month ago now and I'm getting the urge that I want to have another pig back in the house. I hate how quiet the house is without wheeks and the general company Arthur used to make. But on the other...
