New Guinea Pig! Nail Clipping Qs

I have to admit - I'm a complete wuss, so I take mine to the groomer. It's about $4, only a few blocks away from the house and saves me a great deal of fear and aggitation. He panics so much when you hold him still and his little cries just break my heart.

How do your partners feel about your piggies?

I think my husband is jealous of the piggers - but we also have two cats, a dog, some fish and a hamster. So it's one big zoo. He's jealous of the attention I heap on the piggers, but he really likes animals. The fish and one of the cats are "his". He complains about the time, money & effort...

I know it is not optimal but is it okay?

I was thinking of doing something similar, but with larger cages. We had our boys in an open 4x4 foot pen, but when we got a dog just recently, we had to put them both in a large cage for safety. I would have put them in two separate cages, but every time I've done that, even for a few days...

    look serious case of abuse

"Little girl" or not, you should write a letter of complaint to the authorities that govern the treatment of animals in your town/city (I'm not familiar with UK agencies). And have your mom or a teacher check it for grammar and spelling. You're never too young to become a concerned citizen...

    Is this cruel?

I don't think it's "cruel" - just kind of silly, and obviously a sign that the maker has far too much time on her hands. Although I DO appreciate them and enjoy them, and yes, I've gone to this costume website more than once for a good giggle. I wouldn't dress my own pigs, because clothes on...

    peeing on me?

Both my boys seem pretty agitated when they need to pee and I'm holding them. One of them begins to chirrup a lot, as well, when he needs to go. The younger ones (like humans) aren't as aware of the impending need, but they get better as they get older. And, of course, so do you. Fawn

What's normal for a male pigs, um, privates?

Our Gizzie-Pig's testes got unormous around 4-5 months old and then the rest of him grew into them. As for "cleaning" - I'm willing to take the boys to vet for that. Fawn

Veg*n Environmental impact of predominately vegetarian countries...

Well, I may even be wrong - because I was checking it and it seems that I misremembered when "God" gave the Hebrews their dietary laws. So, I am looking it up right now. YEP! I was wrong - the agreement was with Moses - not Abraham. You can look in Leviticus 11 if you are curious. And...

Veg*n Environmental impact of predominately vegetarian countries...

It's not a matter of being "lowest" animals, but "unclean" and is part of their religious doctrine. (After all, we don't eat dogs either, usually.) In the old testament, there is a story of an agreement between God and Abraham about behavior of the Hebrews, including rules of what can and...

    Foraging Piggies

Okay, I FINALLY properly identified what it is that's growing in yard that my pigs like so much. It's called Bidens pilosa, commonly called spanish needles or beggarticks. Here is a page on them: https://plants.usda.gov/cgi_bin/topics.cgi?earl=plant_profile.cgi&symbol=BIPI And another...

    Frozen veggies?

I've read that you CAN give them frozen veggies. It won't hurt as such, but shouldn't replace fresh veggies. But quite honestly, mine won't touch them. I've snuck a couple in with their regular stuff and they just sit there until I clean them out. Fawn

    Veg*n Help.

Meat-eating has nothing to do with the obesity epidemic - please drop that reasoning and argument from your arsenal. People are eating LESS meat than they were 50 years ago. It's lack of physical exertion and processed sugar. Some common myths...
