I had two boars in a 24"x48" cage while they were babies. When they hit adolescence, that was definitely not enough room to keep them happy with each other (which I expected and knew I would expand)! I've had my boars since October and they will still run when I go to pick them up. Once I have a hold on them, they are fine and content to sit on my lap for awhile. You just have to get used to picking them up and they have to get used to being picked up. :)

This was probably a fluke. She was probably just wound up from the cleaning and this was the time she bit. If it happens again, I would lay off letting her nibble you. As for the wound, you should be fine as long as you keep it clean. Watch for seeping or bad smells that could mean an infection.

We have a water cooler that we refill 5 gallon reverse osmosis water in for the whole family. The dogs and piggies also get the ro water in gallon jugs because our city water seems to have a high amount of chlorine in it and I don't want to risk it. Refilling the jugs is the best option for us...

The only time I have seen guinea pigs climb is when a male is trying to get to a female. If you don't have that problem, then the topless cage should be fine!

It took my daughter two months offering veggies to convince our boy, Jack, that she wasn't going to get him. Now he comes to her as soon as she gets up to the cage and even lets her pet him. It will just take some time!

Do you think he would leave one of those fleece pee pads under the water bottle? It wouldn't help with the empty water bottle, but at least it would save the bedding and the hay.

I use a layer of pee pads, then a layer of newspaper, and then fleece. I keep my fleece clipped up on the sides of the cage liner with binder clips. My piggies leave the clips alone and then I know they are not getting under the fleece to chew on the pee pads.

I won't separate them unless things turn bloody! As of right now they have calmed down and have chosen their hidey holes. Thanks again! I was hoping that I was worrying needlessly.
