    A Newbie from Australia

OMG OMG, That is AWESOME , I live in the Hunter Valley, I'm quite close to the Central Coast, finally someone near me. I live in an area called Quorrobolong, nicknamed by it's residents middle of nowhere. It's on some of the Watagan mountains. I live about 20 minutes out from Kurri Kurri and...

    A Newbie from Australia

Welcome fellow Aussie. What part of Australia are you in? Grids are impossible to find, I gave up on them long ago. Corflute is much easier to get at least, both Queensland and NSW have a chain of stores called Sign-a-rama, which stock relatively inexpensive corflute. Once again welcome Emma

    branding livestock

Our cattle and alpacas all have ear tags, We originally weren't going to do it, but then our neighbour decided it was fun to destroy our fences. So we had other cattle from the neighbouring properties wandering in and ours wandering out. We live on a hundred acres of bush land, it takes forever...

    Veg*n Vegetarism and Religion

Yes, dominion over animals, therefore we eat them, great logic. I used to love meat, it was hard to make the switch but you can do it. Still, people need to make their own choice, I've always thought it's better to just say I don't wnat to, then all those other silly excuses. Emma

    Veg*n Vegetarism and Religion

I chose to be a vegetarian partly because of religion, one thing I've always believed is nobody in the world deserves to die before their time. Just before I went veggie I attended a youth synod and it raised questions about why we as humans see ourselves as superior, what reasoning to we have...

Teat exposure sign of birthing soon?

If they are pregnant, they could just be carrying one baby. If they are the pear shape won't appear, generally you only get that pair shape in litters bigger then three.

Teat exposure sign of birthing soon?

When I had sme pregnant sows, they always had long swollen elongated teats, sometimes before the six week mark sometimes it happened a few days before they gave birth, it isn't the best way to tell when they'll be due. At six weeks you can feel what feels like little balls with hard bits in...

    Pregnancy Worries...

By this point you'd be able to feel the bubs for sure, like hard balls with bits of bone. She's most likely not pregnant Emma

    Get all sows spayed?

I would never spay my girls, I don't trust our local vets enough to do it unless it was a life or death situation. Same with the boys, if they were happy living together, in a same sex grouping, I see no reason to neuter them. Good luck getting a new piggie Emma

New Zealand Not just in this country

I live in a rural area in Aus. I have never seen a farmer given so much as a fine for mistreatment of livestock. I've seen cattle dead and decomposing in paddocks. A few months back, some idiot rented some property, and dumped a palamino horse on it. The poor horse ran out of feed so quickly. In...

    Iguana Cage?

At one point, I was considering something like this for my lizards, but t just dosn't work. Some reasons- Controlled heating, ceramic heat lamps are HOT, the reason aquariums are mainly used, because theres nothing that can overheat Stability, even a medium sized lizard like Rosie my bearded...

    Veg*n Wool problem.

Local spinners, often get wool from people with pet animals. A lady I know is one of the best spinners and weavers in the area, she uses alpaca fibre and wool. The wool comes from her six spoilt brat sheep, the alpaca fibre is "donated" by us. We have no use for the fibre, we cant spin it, and...

Australia New Style of Cubes available in Australia

K-mart has them in the same section as bed sheets doonas etc. I live out in Quorroblong, which I'm certain translates to Middle of Nowhere. Try telling someone you live in Quorrobolong. About 40 people live here, all farmers, except for a few City slickers, who decided to move to the country...

    microchip

Our dogs are microchipped, it is an excellent thing. A while ago, some idiot came up to our house and demanded we return Latte. Apparently his purebred maltese had been "stolen" and as he very well knew, we were the only owners of a purebred maltese (He's a rescue, but a while ago hes first...
