why is it so hard to adopt?

When it comes to common sense, it's not too common anymore and you can't assume anything.

Does anyone know of some good homemade cavy toys?

I've tried this and usually spend about 20 minutes trying to scrub out the pile of poop stuck to the ends. Now it's the empty oatmeal container with the end chopped off. They love those tunnels! The petstore also sells those wooden tunnels which my baby loves.

why is it so hard to adopt?

I have to say, for a site where it's membership is totally against buying from a petstore, there are many advertisements for petstores right on the site! Perhaps it's because the site is being sponsored by the advertisement of the petstores? Just something that I've noticed. I bought mine...

Beware of what Vet you use

Just a note to let people here know to be careful about choosing a vet that has experience with piggies.... Took mine to be neutered, ended up cutting up the wrong "tissue". Now he has to be kept overnight to see if he can pee or not. The vet we always use has admitted to never (prior to us...

    Newborn Piggies - Help?!?

I agree with you. Obviously we didn't want this to happen and we just took the pet store's word that these were both females. That is a good lesson in itself.

    Newborn Piggies - Help?!?

Nope. The wife cleaned out the cage just yesterday. Tonight she went to check up on our two cuties and found 5 cuties! I'll be getting a vet here to in two weeks to verify who is what sex. Until then, I'll keep Dad away. Thanks for advice everyone! We switch to the pellet version as well...

    Newborn Piggies - Help?!?

You are right, in looking through some previous posts, we realized the other may be a male and no, we did not confirm it with a vet. So right now I've separated the alleged male from the apparent mom and babies. Without confirming with a vet, are there any surefire (or close to) signs to tell...

    Newborn Piggies - Help?!?

Well here is the unfortunate story, we bought two piggies back in April (BOTH FEMALE), low and behold we have three newborn piggies. Apparently the pet store sold us one pregnant piggy unknown to us. We are positive we have two females. Two Questions please: 1. Should we separate the...

    Is hickory wood safe?

I know cedar is not good. I understand that pine and aspen are fine. Not sure about the Hickory however. I'm sure someone here will set that straight.

    Buying food for new piggie

I use both the cubes and the timothy hay. Mine seem to prefer the regular timothy hay over the cubes.

    Winter veggies

I plan on paying more for the romaine lettuce and such. As it is, it's expensive but to me it's worth it for these little fellas.

Question thats sorta dumb but needs answers

Ok, despite all the poop edibles and wanting to vomit, I think I'll try the hand vac technique :)

    Pooping in the Food Dish?

Thanks Percy, good advice to be followed. I'm going to be buying two sets of fleece for their bedding as well from the local fabric shop.
