This is my gp's *kitchen* which is the tub from my very, very first cage(I know, I was a HORRIBLE cavy caretaker then).Feedback please!Oh and I have KM's hayloft hay on the way!
Great Idea! Is it easy for them to hop in and out? Don't worry about feeling like a horrible cavy caretaker.. I too had a terribly small cage at one time. I saw in the pet store a few weeks ago a cage about that size advertised for two piggies!
Dont worry about feeling like a bad mother to your pigs, I used to have guinea pigs that i stuck in those boxes too. They both died within a year, I still feel terrible
What matters now is that you are a great caretaker! Everyone makes mistakes and with all the misleading information and bad advice out there, it's no wonder so many cavies are in cramped cages! I really like the "kitchen" idea, only, I'm not sure how they get in and out. If I were to do that, I'd have to cute a hole in the side so my cubby piggy could walk in. What a cool idea.
I did the same in my cage, I put the base of the store cage we bought at the beginning as the kitchen area, and they love it!. Is not that high for them, so they easily jump in and out from it Well done!
I love the idea of using the bottom of my soon-to-be old/first/small/BAD cage as the kitchen area of my soon-to-be new/4x2 C&C/big/GREAT cage! I found this site about 2 weeks ago and it took only minutes for me to realize I had to build one of these. I got my husband involved, got things ordered and I've found dozens of fab ideas on this site. I agree with all of you above, especially Noodles...we are great caretakers now (I will be soon!!). A kitchen area like this would appear to help keep the fleece cleaner. Great idea - thank you !!
