Our door opens from the top the entire 2X2 and folds. Their are 2 metal rods on the sides for support and hold the doors up.
The 4 wood slats are for support so the doors don't fall in. We have 3 cats that weigh 35lbs in total weight. This helps keep the integrity of the cage.
