Fleece - Guinea Pig Cages

I am new to fleece but so far I love it. I just vaccum it and then wash the fleece 1x weekly. They like laying on it too...I see way more piggie flops than I ever did with shavings.
hi, i was just wondering if your guinea pigs really do use the litter box and if so... how did you train them to use it becuase my guinea pig hasnt caught on yet.

They mainly use the litter box for pee and the hay area for poops but they will also go poop in the litterbox if it is closer than going to the hay area.

I trained them by everytime they go poop throw some of the poops in there and find the spots they pee in the most and put the litter box on top of it. They smell the pee and think oh well I peed here last so it must be ok and will hope into the litterbox and go pee.
Then once they start consistently peeing in there you can move it to a corner. They will have some accidents so you still need bedding or absorbant layers under the fleece if you use the fleece. If you use bedding like carefresh or wood shaving use a different type in the litterbox. If you use the same bedding they will associate the bedding with potty and continue to go all over the cage.
So if you use wood shaving buy a bag of carefresh (cheaper is walmart carefresh called critterfresh) or yesterdays news, and if you use carefresh buy a small bag of Aspen to use. So they associate one with sleeping, walking around on and the other with potty.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I just adopted my guinea pig, I'm interested in using the fleece...however he is not litter trained so i know he will go to the bathroom on the fleece, what should I put under the fleece?

I lvoe using fleece. I just started using and my Pinky loves it. Way happier. And I just built her a 2x4 C&C cage.

:?:
I just put some fleece in my cage. I noticed the pigs are trying to chew it.
Has anyone had any experience with the pigs eating fleece??
Any suggestions to keep them from trying to chew it up??

Thanks in advance,
Val

What I do is fold the edges of the fleece under, because its mostly the edges my piggy chews on. Also, I have a lot of wood blocks in there for her to chew on, and that seems to help distract her from chewing on the fleece, and its better for her teeth!
Hope I helped!

I'm curious, does your piggie jumo over the fens things? I use them for floor time sometimes and my to boys can jump over then with ease. Does your piggiy do that? I love your cage.
