what is the green surface?

I was wondering the same thing about the green surface. It looks like the stuff they use for putt-putt golf. Nice set-up for your piggies.

Green flooring is peaces (50x50cm) of rubber based wall-to-wall carpet. Under those peaces is plastic sheet to bring more protection to the floor underneath.
