All finished, for now....... - Guinea Pig Cages

The girls are in here. But they are hiding under the hay loft and one under the other hay hide area. they are now slowly being lured out by the carrots I scattered all over. This is a 3X4 grid cage, but works out to be just over 15 sq. ft. They are the larger grids of 14.5 inches each. Home to
Great Cage. Why did you choose to mix the bedding? Just curious. Also, did you paint the PVC Tunnels, or did they come in black. My cage is black grids as well, so would like the black PVC instead of the white I have.

Thanks! I mixed the bedding because it's cheaper for one. But also I like the absorbency of the yesterdays news and the odor control. But i felt that it was too rough of a bedding, and flew out of the cage too easily all by itself. So I mixed in some leftover carefresh one day and I loved the mix. The mix of the two also make spot cleanings better and more efficient.

They came in black, I found them at Home Depot. I also thought they only came in white, and was happily surprised to see the pipes in black as well.

Looks great and roomy. Mixing the bedding is a great idea, you get the benefits of both in your case.

Be careful with carrots though, they are sugary and best to be fed sparingly (one baby carrot per pig per day). I realize you probably don't feed them that many daily, just in case you didn't realize.

Hi, thanks for the compliments. They normally only get a baby carrot two to three times a week each. But since it was a new cage and i wanted to entice them to get out and explore it I tossed in a few extra carrots. But thank you for the advice. :)

Oh that's understandable. I figured it was just this once, but some people don't know, so was just checking.

First off, I love the dimensions of your cage. Most cages here are longer, including mine, mostly because I don't have a huge amount of space to keep the cage, but I love how square it is. It seems so much more spacious. Also, mixing the bedding is a great idea and it kind of looks like a plush carpet with rich colors, so it looks great too. You have some very lucky piggies! Great Job.

Thank you. They do love it. I'm having some issues with behavior from one of my females. But in general the cage is working out great. Did a full clean tonight and it cost around $11 for the complete change out of the bedding. Didn't even notice an odor while I was cleaning it. The combo seems to be working really well and I find the piggies making their own bed areas and laying in the softter bedding. I've changed again from carefresh to the kaytee type of carefresh bedding. It's about $10 cheaper and honestly it works better. Now that i know their potty spots in the new cage I can focus just putting the majority of yesterday's news in those, and will make spot cleaning every more simple.

Thank you, I thought a long time about the size. And finally was able to make room for it to be more wide than I had planned and not as long. I understand space limitations, but oddly enough my problem was in accomodating the extra length more than width. But I did find out that the coroplast wasn't as wide as i needed so i have shorter sides and the litter is flying out during lap time! :)

Oh well asking for a shop vac for my b-day.

Thanks and I love your piggies they are too cute!
