1034 ramp and bottom step - Guinea Pig Cages

Here's another close up of the ramp showing the cable ties for holding 2 baskets together. The step to get onto the ramp is a wooden crate that mandarin oranges come in from the grocery store. This was the "line up" to go up the ramp about 10 minutes after the wheekie piggies went in their new home
I am interested in building a larger cage to accommodate my pigs...we were given the wrong sex from the pet store and now have a mom, dad and two baby girls (we got the male fixed as soon as we found out about the pregnancy) but my concern is cleaning all the different sections,do the different levels come apart or remain together as one?

Thanks kebboli for the compliment, the piggies certainly have variety. I also have a "red" crested in another cage. She is very dominant and is best in her own cage right now. The ramp is 2 baskets from the dollar store cable tied together.

Cleaning was a major concern for me when I designed it. I wanted to be able to stand centre front and clean the complete lower level at one time. The shavings make it easy to "spot" clean every day. I use a dust pan and a small scoop that is usually used for cat litter pans. This scrapes it all out and then I wipe down with a dilute of Quatcille (from a veterinarian) and a sponge. The pole is stationery, just propped under the top, but is tight enough to the bottom that nothing gets under it. The bottom of the ramp is the "orange crate". I take it out and the complete bottom of the cage is free to scrape and wipe. Accessories are all moveable. The piggies only use the top for eating their fruit & veggies and doing laps. The upper is stationery and supported with cable ties at all connections. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT !!!!! It is only 1 grid wide at all points, therefore I have the ability to reach under them completely to clean the bottom. 2 grids deep was just too far to reach. Making it the full length of the cage gave "length" for the piggies to gain speed in their pop corns & runs. (Speed is important, I ride motorcycles). The top only gets "droppings" and is easily swept up. I prefer the vacuum cleaner with a brush on end, much quicker. The piggies even stay in the cage while cleaning. The like to be involved in whatever I do in the cage with them with feeding and playing. Total cleaning takes about 10-15 minutes from start to finish. Spot cleaning only a couple of minutes a day.
