1020 - Guinea Pig Cages

Nice cage. I've never seen those light blue grids before. I see you are in Canada. What store did you get them from?

I got them from Wal-Mart. They are closer to a country blue (canadian terms), and Wal-Mart also had a dark blue, but not "navy", and the standard white. I was tickled pink (actually blue) as the colour goes great with the decor. My dining room is now the wheekie piggy room.

Thanks Starbucks. I'm trying to get close up photos of my ramp & hay rack, but the wheekie piggies are in it now & keep getting in the way.

wow..great cage...the inside...did you make the white part...does it come apart in different levels for cleaning or as one piece. this is the nicest cage i've seen and I would love to duplicate it if you don't mind for my four little ones...

Thank you pigsrus for the complements. The grids don't come apart, as for stability I used cable ties along with the connectors. The design was to make it simple to clean from all aspects. I am a vertically challenged person (short arms) & want to spend very little time cleaning so I can play with the wheekie piggies. If you need info on building, I'd be glad to help. The inside white is chloroplast, single sheet on bottom & single sheet on length of the top. A 4'x8' sheet did all, including the border for the part with the carpet. I use the carpet area for the fruit & veggies, as no shavings get in their bowls. Let me know what else I can do to help. The total cost for everything was approx $75 cdn. I even have many grids left over, but no table room to expand. I'm going to use the rest for an "outdoor" play area in the spring. Let me know if I can help. Isabeau

thanx so much...I would love info on building this one...I have no idea how to even start, where to purchase, are they office supplies or pet grids...please let me know...I would love to duplicate your piggie home...thanx...Tere'

Hi Teres,
Thanks for the compliments. I'm not working this weekend and will be able to post you some directions and help you through it. Get the required materials. I bought the "grids" from Wal-Mart. Check in the "bathroom & shelving" dept. I bought 3 packs and used 2 packs and a couple grids from the 3rd pack. What I will be using the rest for is to make an exercise pen for the piggies for floor time and "outdoor" time next summer. At $20 Cdn per pack it's a great way to go. The "white" is a 4 x 8 sheet of chloroplast. Get LOTS OF CABLE TIES. There are "other materials", let me know how specific you want the help with ramps, flooring, feeders etc, or if you want to try your imagination. The cage has been exceptionally easy to maintain. I'll try and get some detail photos to help you through it. Let me know. Over & out, have a good night. Isabeau

Thanks for the compliment guy! The piggies used the ramp within minutes of going in the cage. I think the secret to a good ramp is that it is not too steep. The bottom of the ramp goes on the orange crate, so when I clean, I just remove the box, the ramp does not hit the bottom of the cage and cleaning is a breeze. For making a new cage, keep in mind if you can "reach" to all parts of it for cleaning when you design the second level. Isabeau
