What to get for C&C cage

Hi. So Monday, my husband and I are picking up all the supplies for our first c&C cage. I was wondering....what do we need to get? Is there any good tutorials on how to make one?

I've got two expecting piggies and one little runt right now so I need a cage big enough for 4-8 pigs, depending on how many we keep of the babies. What do I need to get?

    Here's a page www.guineapigcages.com/howto/

Of course you'll need coroplast, grids, and zip ties. Unless your going for an alternative cage.

Here's the guide I used to make mine: http://www.guineapigcages.com/howto.htm

You'll need coroplast, grids, and zip ties at minimum. Here's a pretty comprehensive page on the supplies and where to find them: http://www.guineapigcages.com/cubes.htm

The cage sizes will really depend on the sexes of your pigs. A mixed sex group with more than one neutered male doesn't generally work, so the best thing to do is probably have a cage for each sex (assuming everyone will get along). So I'd prepare for having two cages. The sizes will depend on how many of each there are, but if we just say there will be 4 in each for the sake of planning, the minimum size would be a 2x5, I believe, but a 2x6 or bigger would be better.

Thanks. As for the males, I'm not sure what I'll do if there are any. My brother wants two pigs so if there are any males, I guess he'll be giving them a home. I plan on keeping all females. I don't want any more babies, that is for sure!

    I think I'll do a 2x7 or 2x8 Thanks.

Ah, okay! Yeah, if you're just keeping a group of females, that's easier. In the case that you have 8, I think a 2x9 would be the minimum size? Doing a 3-wide cage might make that more manageable since the equivalent would be a 3x6. I made a 3x3 out of half of a 4 foot by 8 foot piece of coroplast, so one sheet would be enough for a 3x6.

Okay, so I have 4 kids....2 of which get into EVERYTHING. If I wanted to make a closed top c&c cage, how would I make a door so I can get into it? I don't want my girls yanking the pigs out!

Zip tie the whole top grids but only zip tie half to the sides and the other half not zip tied down to the sides. You will have a lid but you can still pull it back to get your piggies out.

Great!!! Thanks! Does anyone know how much coroplast I'd need for a 2x7 cage?

I bought all my stuff from the stores here, from the cage to fleece flippers and cases to other fleece made items. Everything perfectly cut/fit and it supports this website. Without our support, there may not be this site of info... just a thought.

My husband and I were looking at some of the cages earlier. We're actually talking about ordering the cage from here because it would be easier. I just don't want to have to wait too long for it to come in. It's still a possibility. Even more so if it supports the site.

I think I got my cage in 3 or 4 days when I ordered from this site.

The shipping is pretty quick. I think I got mine in a couple days and I live in CA.
