    Can guinea pigs be ticklish?

One of my guinea pigs, Udyr, makes himself comfortable on me when i have him up, but as soon as i try to pet him, he jumps or jerks like half a meter(exaggerated)in the air. He doesnt chatter his teeth at me, or make any other sounds, so i'm thinking its not that he HATES it. Maybe he's just ticklish?

Do any of you have guinea pigs who are ticlish/dont like to be petted?

Sounds like popcorning to me. You probably startled him.

My pigs like an ear scratch but after a while they shake me off. They also jerk if I startle them

My piggie Furrybottom does the same thing. He does a bit of rumbling and "poink!" noises along with it. Does your piggie seem to like it? Mine stretches out his back legs and turns a little over for me if he likes it. He's even kicked his leg like a dog once before!

I think Ferb's feet are ticklish, if I try to rub them he starts wriggling and pulls away.

No, i dont think i startle him. He keeps doing it, no matter how many times i try and what angle i come from. And isnt popcorning a good thing?

Dont know how to double qoute) @PiggleLove2013: I dont think he particularly likes it, he probably just likes it better to just lie on me, without any petting.

Yes, they can be ticklish especially if you touch their tummies like likely. But a belly rub might feel better. According to something I have read most biggies do not liked to be touched on their tummies or their butts. For tummies it's probably because it tickles them. Because Giz would jump and make an annoyed sound when I did that. Also if you touch their butts it's actually what other guinea pigs do as a sign of trying to be the dominant one. You know the mounting thing? Yeah so if you did it that he's going to get angry with you and won't appreciate that. But some pigs don't mind. Hope this helps.

Popcorning is generally just a reaction, surprise, joy etc.

You might think he's popcorning when you're doing something he may not like, but it's actually a short jump of annoyance/protest. Now for the real popcorning, this is when they are excited, or extremely happy that something good is happening. Or even playing with a cage mate possibly. I don't think popcorning is ever a negative reaction. But that's just me.

Popcorning is a sign of any kind of stimulation, not just happiness.

It sounds like you're getting his 'no no' spot, most pigs have one. I try not to creep up on my girls when it comes to petting, I always approach from the front so I don't startle them. Maybe try bringing your hand in front of his face and then pet him.

I disagree. I think popcorning is a reactive response to any type of stimulus. It can be a response to something exciting, stimulating, frightening, startling. arousing, etc. I think it's more of a knee jerk reaction than a sign of happiness.
