How old is Chock maddy? Only asking because if he's over 6 months, he shouldn't be having alfalfa, and I can't remember if you mentioned how old he is![]()

Okay, let me start off with saying wow. Now that that's out of the way, how can I convince my parents to get my pigs more than just green bell pepper, romaine, and the occasional carrot/cucumber? I am COMPLETELY willing to buy the produce myself, but I dont think my parents will take that. I would like to switch to green/red leaf lettuce, because my little ones are growing up and I don't want to have to deal with bladder stones. Are baby tomatoes able to be given daily? My pigs only get two meals a day, since I'm gone half the day at school and both of my parents work until at least when I get home. Sorry if I hijacked the thread, just a quick answer will be fine I think this thread is a great idea!
That sucks that your parents won't let you buy produce if it's your money. Maybe stress the importance of a balanced nutrition? Saying it will save on vet costs later if they get enough nutrients by having different veggies?
Okay, just talked to my mom. She said that I could get some, she just didn't want to get so much that it spoiled before they can eat it. I think I might not have to pay for it, but i dont really know or care too much, so it's ok.
Thanks for letting me know that. I didn't know. Guess I should pass that info on to my bf so he gets fresh stuff, and in turn piggy will too, heehee.
Yeah, I worry about veggies spoiling too, since I only have the one piggy. Today she had her first red pepper—not the spicy one,. She loved it! She also had some romaine, a seedless grape, and a mini carrot. I bought her a deluxe salad mix with three different lettuces, so will feed her that tomorrow, along with a yellow pepper, the mini carrot, and a cherry tomato.
Today chock has had a bowl of mixed letis leves, 2 slices of carrot and a bit of rocket. He loves rocket, and his usuals topped up. For people who dont know, rocket is a peppery type of letis available here n the u k. May be called something else n the rest of the world, not sure though.
peekaboo's breakfast: romaine, bit of orange, celery, coriander, winter squash dinner: coriander, celery, romaine, cucumber and a bit of kale. I give her 5 grams of each veg (25 grams total per meal) I was wondering if I'm feeding her too much..... I read this formula somewhere online (5grams each of 5 different veggies/ fruit from each of these groups 1 high calcium, 2 med-high calcium and 2 low calcium) I know she's supposed to get about one cup of veggies a day. she's getting 50 grams.... and a cup of lettuce weighs 80 grams..... but 1 cup of celery is 225 grams (btw - I'd never feed her 1 cup of celery) I'm a little confused.
This is a great thread!
My boys had a cup of veggies (mix of green leaf lettuce, 1/4 red pepper, two little broccoli heads, and a handful of cilantro). They had pellets and unlimited hay, then a treat of mango rind (with a little fruit left) as dessert tonight.![]()
Mine had- 1/5th of a red, green, and yellow bell pepper, a couple leaves of red lettuce, a small handful of kale, 4 leaves of artichoke, 2 blueberries, a carrot, parsley, cilantro, and their hay and pellets. That was all split between two meals.
thats a nice mix there. This morning chock had: his usuals topped up (hay and pelits) and some baby spinitch leeves. He loves that!
Today my girls are going to have baby gem lettuce, yellow pepper, and a little bit of dillAnd their usuals of course.
@maddy harper make sure to be sparing with the spinach, it's not safe to feed too regularly.
he only gets it now and again.
Yesterday the kids had more than usual, I tend to spoil them a little on Saturdays. They had green leaf lettuce, carrot, cucumber, green bell pepper, celery leaves, and cherry tomato.
Today they got green leaf lettuce for breakfast. Later today they will have green bell pepper and a little fresh grass. Today is also vitamin c tablet day. I give them each on Sunday for a little treat. They love them.
Of course they ALWAYS have hay and pellets available.
chock is a year now. I will stop the alfalfa right away. Thanks for telling me that @ princess_piggie
Maddy I tried to send you a private message but it said I couldn't. I'm FaaFaa from the other forum. Just wanted to say it's nice to see you here!!!
My girls have had some red leaf lettuce, green pepper, celery, cilantro, tomato, and a carrot. In addition to their timothy hay and oxbow pellets.
chock had some hand fed kail for his play time veg.
Ferb has had 1/2 of a cherry tomato, small pieces of celery and a leaf of green lettuce. Later he will be getting green pepper, sweet potato, cilantro, and more green lettuce. He's got hay, water and pellets too.
