Post a collage photo of all your pets (don't forget your piggies!)

I thought it might be fun to see what other critters everyone has in addition to guinea pigs.

I know many of us have multiple pets. BUT, I thought, rather than posting a gazillion photos of each pet, why not...
post a single photo (collage) that includes ALL your pets.

I'll start with mine as an example...

^^ I love the tri-coloring on those piggies. They're soo cute!

I noticed one of your dogs has similar coloring as one of your piggies. It would be so cute to see the piggie in the upper right in a photo with your dog. Too cute.

    Thanks for posting!

I'm jealous of your zoos! Mine would just be a pig collage. I keep knocking around the idea of adopting a hamster though....

Mine wouldn't have my 2 hamsters in it because every time I put my hand in their cage to get them out to change their bedding they bite me. : (

Aaw! I do hear lots of stories about bitey hamsters. Fortunately, even if I adopt a hamster and get a bitey one, I'm okay with look-but-don't-touch pets. Although it would make cage changes difficult....

Re: Post a collage photo of all your pets (don't forget your piggies!)

@ThePigAlchemist If you do get one, keep in mind they also need a bigger cage than what the pet stores offer, they get bored way easier than a guinea pig does so never have bars within reach of their mouths or they will bite them until their mouths bleed. Plus you might black out and kill it because the sound of a hamster obsessively biting bars will not only keep you from sleeping but make you slowly go insane. So yeah, never have a barred cage for a hamster and you'll all be fine. ;D

And oh yes, they bite, they're little beady eyed biting bastards... they are super cute though... it's very deceiving. I think the look-don't-touch is a very good idea. haha

@LuvCavysLuvCats Oh, definitely! I was thinking about getting a Martin's guinea pig cage for a hammy actually. It seems perfect to me. Good ventilation, good bar spacing (I would probably custom get it to have 1/2 inch squares), and nice and big. I'd have to look at how high up the tray goes before the bars start. The one I was looking at is 540 square inches, and I've been hearing 360 square inches is the minimum cage size for GPC-equivalent hamster requirements. I'd do a bin cage except I'm terrible at DIY beyond making a C+C cage!

Re: Post a collage photo of all your pets (don't forget your piggies!)

@Gandalf - The tri-color dog is Bristow and the one piggie is Dr. Evil. Bristow is probably the only of the two dogs that I would trust to get close to the guineas. But, I don't let them hang out together. he doesn't mind if a guinea is on my lap, but the other one is all about watching the guineas to see what they are up to.

    Re: hamsters

I actually had a hamster that did not bite. His name was Teddy (short for Theodore). He was pretty slow as far as hamsters go. He lived a long time to compared to the avg. too. But, my son had 1 that did bite and could unlock his cage. Even when it was locked with an outside contraption!

I think his was a dwarf hamster and they are meaner.

I don't think a guinea pig cage would work due to the bars. It would definitely have to be reconfigured or a hamster would escape.

@Matchamom I would definitely check the bar spacing. I think I could get it custom made to have 1/2 inch squares for bar spacing. That's small enough to keep mice in (in the experience of mouse owners I've seen online), so it would probably be good. I prefer to do a barred cage because of ventilation, but I'd have to look into the bar chewing concerns.

Re: Post a collage photo of all your pets (don't forget your piggies!)

Teddies/Syrians are known for being the nicest breed, Dwarfs are known for being little spawns of satan... I think Chinese Hamsters are also pretty sweet, if I remember correctly. Honestly compared to the little Campbell Russian dwarf bastards they are all angels. (Forgive me haha) Even the winter White Russian hamsters are really nice, and I hear hardly ever bite. The Campbell's are the ones you just look at and don't touch.

The bars really are a concern, as I said they have a tendency to bite on the bars until their mouths are bleeding. My old hamster even broke his tooth doing it. I'm not sure about the other breeds but I know most Dwarfs will do this.

Sounds like a plan. I didn't have chewing issues either, guess I was lucky. But maybe because the cage you are planning would be so big it wouldn't be an issue? I gave my hamster lots of exercise - out of the cage. He had a little ball car that he ran all over the place. Plus toys to keep him occupied. I don't know what the recommendations would be though, so maybe there is a lot of advice for hamsters - just like guinea pigs?

My hamsters don't chew the bars but they have ALOT of chew sticks and such in their cage. Plus we also have the ball for them to run in so not much time to get bored !
