Hi- I am happy I found this place.

I have a question about using lupron injections for a female guinea pig due to having a cystic ovary. She is almost 7 years old and I am scared to put her through surgery, although my first instinct, as her caretaker, is to do so and try to save her. What is the downsize of using lupron and how common is it for 7 year old guinea pigs to survive a hysterectomy? I wish I would have done this years ago when the vets advised me to do so to prevent this from happening. UGH. Please advise. She is otherwise healthy.

Thank you for your help.

Tough decision... At seven, I think I'd opt for the Lupron shot. If it works, it's the easiest option. If it doesn't, surgery is the fall-back.

Let us know what you decide and how she gets along.

Lupron is just one of the hormones used to shrink the cysts. Try the Lupron, and if you don't see results you might try one of the others.
