guinea pig wheezing

Earlier today i noticed one of my my guinea pigs was wheezing for a couple of hours. It really worried me but she is now back to her happy sueaky self. I think she may of got a peice of food stuck in her throat and when she went to get some water to drink she washed it down.

Any Ideas ?

Yes, that could have possibly happened but please keep an eye out on her breathing. Wheezing is a recognized symptom of a URI, so if it persists a vet appointment is needed.

Hope it is not an URI. They can be hard to get rid of from my experiance. I have a chronic cough/sneeze prob with one of my pigs. And my male just started sneezing two days ago (both have appointments with a new pig savvy vet). Just listen for sneezing and coughing. It will sound just like a humanes does.

Recurrent URI's can be an indication of heart problems. Make sure the vet checks that out funnygpigs. Could your pig who has the chronic cough/sneezing have allergies? Pigs can get allergies too.

Cavynut, your best bet if you hear the wheezing again would be to get your pig to the vet immediately.

Yes, I am going to a new vet that is very g-pig knowledgable. I have to drive 45min to get to her. But, it will be worth it. I was not too happy with the last vet. Allergies were talked about. I switched bedding and she has slowed down with the coughing. Now my male started sneezing (have not heard him cough). I have appts for them both tomorrow @4pm. But, the wiered thing is, I have not heared him sneeze at all today. Well, still getting it checked out. Better safe then sorry. I am going to talk to the new vet about heart problems. :0)
