Can you house two male guinea pigs together?

I have had my 5-6 month old guinea pig for a couple months now. He is very small and I think even once he is full grown he is just going to be a smaller guinea pig. He is soo cute and pretty nice. (Although he might nip you if you smell good, hehe) He love my sisters guinea pig. We dont house them together, though. Anyways, I am wondering if it is safe and okay to get another baby male guinea pig. Are they going to fight and hurt each other? I have been doing research and a lot of guinea parents say it just varies on the individual guinea pig. Do you guys find this to be true? What are the chances of them fighting and hating each other? I know you are supposed to introduce them to each other on neutral ground, but do you guys have any other tips on how to introduce and bond them and such if I do end up getting another one? Thanks!!

I have 5 male guinea pigs. A trio and a pair. It took some work to get everyone to get along but they do just fine. I have always had male guinea pigs and almost always had them in pairs. I think males work better in pairs than they do in larger groups. At least that has been my experience.

How did you do it? Did you keep them in separate cages at first or what?

What will you do if they don't get along?

Why does your sister have a guinea pig that doesn't live with yours?

Re: Can you house two male guinea pigs together?

The idea that males can simply NEVER live together or they will fight is complete myth. I've had 11 guinea pigs over the years and I've never had trouble housing them together.

You have to make sure the cage is large enough for two males (they need more room than females). Lack of enough space may contribute to the squabbles. Also the hideys should have multiple entrances so they cannot trap each other in or out of them.

There's no way to know how they will get along before you try but having enough room (10.5 sq ft) and multiple entrance hideys will help them to at least tolerate each other. There are rare cases when the pigs just will NOT get along. If that's the case, what is your plan?

I have two pairs of males that live happily together! If your sisters guinea pig is a male you should try putting them together I don't know why size cage you have but you need a large enough cage pet store cages just won't do!
