Can I feed rabbit pellets for emegencies?

Hello! Its been weeks since pet stores here went out of stock with my usual brand of piggy pellets (hagen). I tried all the pet stores I know even the ones out of town, they all said that their supplier is all out. Hagen is the best brand we have available here, I would be willing to go for something better if possible.

I wasn't expecting that the pellet shortage would last this long (almost a month now), so I've spent a lot of money on hay and fresh veggies, my piggies are doing good, no weight loss or anything bad. Their pelletless diet is leaving broke every week, and I'm thinking about giving them rabbit pellets just for now, but I'm not sure what ingredients to avoid. I provide them lots of vit C from veggies and in syrup form through syringe. Will that be okay? In the mean time I'll save on money so I could finally buy online, there's actually one person here in my country twho personally imports oxbow, but a bag would cost thousands (the ones I usually buy is around P200). Buying online would also cost a lot but I feel like it's more worth it.

Anyone knows people who ship piggy pellets outside US? I saw a thread here once that had a person from India who asked the same question before... can't find it anymore I'm also confused about paypal, and I've never used credit card for buying things in the internet before, is paypal necessary or could I just give them my number?

    thanks in advance!

As long as you have hay for your pigs, pellets are not 100% necessary

I know, but that means I have to provide more veggies and hay to meet their nutritional needs, right now it's going beyond my budget for them . They get hungry really fast without pellets. Wondering if I could give them rabbit pellets for now until I've saved enough money to buy online and feel more financially stable (as a student).

Agree, pellets are not 100% needed. They only are 5% of a pigs diet. As long as you are giving a good quality hay 24-7 and feeding veggies your piggy can go without pellets.

They need hay 24-7. It's better for them to just have hay without pellets in some cases. They will eat more- meaning grinding their teeth down naturally. Do not feed rabbit pellets- they are for rabbits, not piggies.

If they get really hungry without pellets, how much are you feeding them of pellets a day? An adult pig should only get 1/8 of a cup of pellets daily.

Rabbit pellets are not a good substitute for guinea pig pellets. Guinea pigs cannot produce their own vit c so pellets are fortified with vit c -- rabbit pellets are not.
