    Young GP and hay?

What a good type of hay for young guinea pigs? I'm a little confused.

Alfalfa hay is the best for young, pregnant, and nursing pigs. It is higher in calcium and protein, which they need.

@CavySavvyGirl and @RoseNRiver0523, alfalfa hay is NOT necessary for young pigs. All pigs, regardless of age, need a long strand grass hay (timothy, brome, meadow, orchard, blue) to keep their molars ground down and their guts moving properly. Alfalfa is NOT a grass hay, it's a legume, like peas.

What young pigs DO need is extra calcium, and they can get that by supplementing (not replacing) their grass hay with some alfalfa, or by feeding them alfalfa pellets, or by giving them high calcium vegetables (parsley, for example).

Ok then. I guess that's why I came to this forum to get advice and not give it. There's obviously far more experienced people here than I.

I am so glad to see this! I've been told that mine are pretty young pigs but I just give them Pet Select Timothy hay. I do feed them parsley and whole variety of veggies which they love so I'm glad to see I'm doing OK!
