I know this is a piggy forum..So if this thread isn't allowed then I don't mind if it gets deleted..

Anyway.. apart from my piggies (my own ones and the ones in the rescue), cats, fish, mice and my rabbit..I also have 3 ratties.
(Will go up to four in 3 - 5 months once I get a bigger cage..the cage right now is big enough for 13 ratties but am waiting till we get a new one that can fit 18 ratties)

There is my man Boris who is a neutered Dove hooded male rat, then there is Honey Boo Boo who is a tiny champagne Berkshire girl and last but not least is Tinker who is a black hooded girl with a black spot on her back left leg and an amazing white chin stripe. All are rescue. :)

Anyway..Here are a couple of my fav rattie pictures.....

Pictures of my three together...

Awh, I never knew they could be so cute! Why are they called "rattie" instead of "rat"? I feel like adding the extra syllable makes it harder to say! Haha. :)

The black and white one is my male rattie named Mikey and the light brown and white one is my female named Micha. I'm very new to owning rats and have only had them for a week and a half.

I'm really battling to get them tame though! They are 8 weeks old. Any advice would really be great.

Does anyone know what kind of rats mine are???

Oh, the black one has black eyes, and the brown one has red eyes if that helps at all?

@Riot101 Are you keeping them separated? Unless of course Mikey is neutered or Micha is sprayed... If you don't have either of then de-sex and they are living together please don't breed them...She can have as many as 24 babies...it would be so hard on her...and 24 more ratties in the world is a heck of a lot! :)
Plus with rat gentics breeders have to be very careful with not breeding the males till they are over a year to make sure he has never shown a sign of aggression to other rats or people...the female has to be over 6 months for the same reason plus she needs to grow.....
I don't breed mine (of course! Boris is neutered!) and would never plan to, there are already so many in the NZ Rat Rescue..one lady alone is a foster home for 52 rats right now.

I've heard babies are much more excited about everything and when I was rat sitting over the Christmas period, I rat sat 10 rats (3 different peoples rats) and the only one I did want to hold as I was to scared I'd lose her was the young 10 week old girl as she was so energetic and just ran around and had so much energy to burn. A week and a half isn't very long to of had them and get to know their personality..just wait till a month has gone by and you will understand them as their selves so much better.

Is the black one hooded? Or a bareback? He deff doesn't look like a self or Berkshire..he has too much white on his belly. :)
The other one looks like a over coloured hooded..but I'm no good with colours...thats just from me browsing the rat forum.

Noooooo, I'd NEVER breed my babies! All my male piggies are neutered but my exotics vet says he will only neuter Mikey when he is 4 months old, so for now they are in two separate cages but they can still see each other, just not touch each other. They are brother and sister from the same litter.

I have no idea what kind they are (I'd loooove to know). Both have their whole head coloured and their bellies are both white. The colours go strips down their backs.

I'd guess you have a black hooded boy and and fawn hooded girl...but I'm not 100% sure! :)

ETA: is her colouring more of a orange/fawn one or is it more like my dove hooded boy?

So, how do I get my ratties to not wana jump out of my hands and run away in terror? I am talking to them and have been hand feeding them (sometimes they take it, sometimes they don't). But when I pick them up they wiggle and wana jump out and run away???

2 cubic feet per rat..but as you could tell I think that's too small...wayy to small..but others don't so it should be fine...lol, just me and big cages!((broken link removed))

Here are some pic's from last week... (The cage (not stand) is 80cm wide x 49.5cm deep x 140cm tall)

What camera do you use? The photos look so clear.
I would really love a mini heard of ratties, but the landlord hates rats and won't allow me to :c

So I put my cage measurement in the calculator and it say that I can house 7. But I just want to make sure that it's right because I put your measurement in and it said 9 but earlier you said 13 did I do it wrong?/:

My measurements are 24in deep x 24in wide x 42 in tall

No, 9 is right...9 per 2 cubic feet and 13 if you do the smallest at 1.5 cubic feet..lol, sorry! It can hold 9-13 ratties..
Yup your cage can hold 7-9 rats, you did it right. :)
