    Re: Cage ideas?

Well first of all, Welcome to the forum! You will learn lots of information about guinea pigs here.

Now onto your cage. This chart will help you decide how big your cage should be, depending on how many pigs you have.

    Cage Size Standards
    # of Pigs
    Minimum
    PREFERRED
    generally
    in grids
    in grids
    7.5 sq ft more is better 30" x 36" 2x3 grids 27" x 41"
    7.5 sq ft 10.5 sq feet 30" x 50" 2x4 grids 27" x 56"
    10.5 sq ft 13 sq feet 30" x 62" 2x5 grids 27" x 71"
    13 sq ft more is better 30" x 76" 2x6 grids 27" x 84"

You can also find many pictures in the gallery for examples of cages. You shouldn't need to create a covered cage unless you have other pets, such as cats, or young children.

You can buy cage kits at the Guinea Pig Cages Store, but it's much cheaper to make your own. Grids can be purchased at stores such as Bed Bath and Beyond in packs. Coroplast can be purchased at Home Depot, or sometimes SABIC.

ETA: Table is found on guineapigcages.com

Thank you I have 2 guinea Pigs and planning on getting a 3rd. I have enough grids to make atleast a 2x6 then a 2x1 second level.

My three girls are comfortable in a 2x6 so that's what I would do
Welcome! And we'd love to see pigtures!
Also, definitely consider adopting when getting a third piggy!

Yes, a 2x6 would be a good choice. I agree with @2198lindsey, I'd love to see some pictures of your pigs!

She also goes and sits in the hay rack. That's another reason I need a c&c cage because in there store bought cage the loft isnt that tall so she can go and somehow get in it and also so they don't have to be in there play pen half of the time.

A 2x1 second level is not large enough for two cavies, much less three. That is, if there is anything else in the loft. My loft is a kitchen area with a litter box, water bottle, hay rack, and pellet bowl. I find this to be an ideal arrangement to keep the main level of the cage clean and confine most of the hay to the litter box.

The problem is that both my kids seem to want a snack or to go to the bathroom at the same time, and both can't fit in the litter box OR the food area at the same time. They literally hop over each other and trade places. Please do consider a 2x2 loft for your cage, especially with three cavies.

Here's a pic of my current loft (soon to be expanded) so you can see what I mean.

I found a picture on here of a loft in the middle. I really like this idea. I might end up doing this
