Chewing is pine ok for them to chew?

I am using some pine clothespins to keep the fleece up. I ran out of hay for a few days and saw that they started chewing the clothespins. Is this ok? They have never been interested in chewing before, and I just restocked the hay so I'm thinking they will stop now. Is it safe to have these in the cage?
