    Lightbulb Panpan's Pimple-like bump

Good Evening! I'd be ever so thankful if I could have some info on this.
Just a few minutes ago, while going through my routine checks, I noticed a little pimple like bump on Panpan's nose.
Could it be fungus? Any ideas on what it could be?

No changes in bowel, energy, and diet - no hair fall outs either.
He doesn't seem bothered when I touched it; though I've only tried to a few times - don't want to pop it and let infection kick in.
But, could it also be possible he poked himself while eating hay and the sore got infected?
I've checked his whole body, and this one seems to be the only one.
I will be calling in to the vets tomorrow for an appointment. But, if it can be solved in some way then that would be great ^^

    Thank you so much~

I'm not really sure what that could be.

My pig that has since passed had something similar on his cheek. At first the vet told me it was like a pimple, and would eventually go away. Well, it didn't and ended up getting pretty big (pea size). It wasn't affecting him, but we ended up getting it removed because we didn't want it taking over his face. It changed shape as it grew, and turned sort of purple. I didn't get it sent off to the lab for analysis because I didn't have enough money at the time. It was some sort of tumor that I haven't seen before. After it was removed it never came back.

I think it's best to go to a cavy-savvy vet to get an opinion. It could be some sort or cyst or tumor.

It looks like an abscess. You should take him to the vet to get it drained. He might also need antibiotics.

I was thinking it could also be a tumour in the process of growing, but didn't want to get too paranoid.
Thanks for replying! I'll definitely book an appointment with a vet that was recommended here.
If you don't mind me asking, about how much was the tumour removal? and how was the process?

I don't really remember the exact cost since it was awhile ago, but I think it was around $200. It was a simple procedure and it didn't take long for him to heal. He was sent home with a few days of pain meds, but he was up and eating right away. It didn't take him long to get back to his old self. He eventually needed a lipoma removal and that cost about $500. The aftercare for that was pretty intense, and he had a rough time. In hindsight, I regret getting the lipoma removed, but that's another story. Definitely get it checked out. Since it's pretty tiny right now it's hard to tell exactly what it could be!

Thanks for the link! I've started to read them, and hopefully, it can be removed encapsulated and sent into the lab, just to make sure.

Definitely getting it check out. The cost is around what I expected, hopefully it is nothing too severe and my pocket will be able to withstand it :)
Thanks! Will keep you posted :)

    Re: Panpan's Pimple-like bump

Sorry I haven't had the time to update.

We went to the vet earlier this week and he said it was a sebaceous cyst - pimple and he drained it. (Luckily, I was only charged for the appointment which was $100)
He also saw another but said to leave it alone as it is beginning to recede.
He was afraid it could be a growing tumour, but the consistency of the fill differed (something along those lines, I can't quite remember).
When asked what caused it, he said irritated hair follicles and the fact that they like to burrow their nose and might've been poked by something.
I asked if I could get antibiotics and he said it causes more harm than good due to gut flora imbalance, and should only be used when really needed with probiotics.

I'm watching Panpan very carefully in case the wound gets infected (so far, so good) and hoping it doesn't grow back.

Thank you for all the info! Very much appreciated :)

Marcipan, you hang on to that vet! He knows what he's talking about. And go post his information over at Guinea Pig Cages, Care, Shelters, Veterinarians - Guinea Pig Zone so other people can find him. Thanks.

    Re: Panpan's Pimple-like bump

    Hi!
I was wondering if anyone has used Ciprofloxacine as eye drops before?
Saw Panpan this morning with hay stuck in his eye, and booked an appointment.
It escalated so fast! I'm glad I took him right away. By the time we got into the examination room, his eye was cloudy. The vet stained it and said it was ulcerated.
He was prescribed Ciprofloxacine (0.3%) one drop for 7 days every 6h..and we're scheduled for a second appointment next week
