Best detergent for Piggy Bed Spread

I received my Piggy Bed Spread in the mail yesterday and my girls (and I) LOVE it. They're all sprawled out in the middle of the cage like they're sunbathing!

I know to use unscented laundry soap without softeners, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on specific types/brands of detergent I should use to wash the fleece. I normally use All Free and Clear for the (human) family's laundry. Is this okay, or do you recommend something else?

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I just use any unscented brand and add one cup of vinegar. I haven't found any brand that is necessarily better than the others.

Some people like ALL Free & Clear. Never tried it, though.

Same, I just use my normal unscented liquid soap and vinegar. Each 3-4 wash I use bicarbonate instead of vinegar so the fleece is soft. I just do an extra rinse. Fleece can retain soap a bit more. And I have a very old mini washer. Better safe than sorry.

ALL F&C should be fine - I used to use that with diapers and had no issues. Currently I use Method Free & Clear (available at Target) which is super concentrated and comes in a nifty squirt bottle - makes it much simpler for my kids to do their own laundry without creating a giant mess

I don't tend to use vinegar, but if you use it, just add it like you would fabric softener.

Vinegar softens water, gets rid of odors, boosts detergent. Add it along with your detergent. It also disinfects.

I was my piggy bedspreads with Green Works Laundry Detergent. It is all natural and the one has no scent. I also use a cup of vinegar with the load, I put it right in the water when the machine is filling up. I find it works amazing!

I make my own !! The ingredients are easy to find and I make a huge bucket that lasts for an entire year for family and pig's. It is pennies per wash. Happy to share recipe if anyone has an interest.

Here's a dumb question? We have soft water, is it OK to use vinegar? I also use the Method detergent and love it

You can use vinegar in any type of water. It eliminates odors, is a laundry booster and disinfects. Plus, it's safe for pets.

I use original Tide (unscented) and put the vinegar in where the fabric softner would normally go.

All Free & Clear is perfectly fine to use. As long as your detergent is unscented and free of any dyes and fabric softeners it's fine to use. I personally prefer to use natural and organic soaps and detergents because I don't like all the chemicals and nasty stuff in regular ones and I have very very sensitive skin and break out easily if it's not natural or organic. I imagine pigs have sensitive skin too.

My favorite detergent/soap to use on clothing, bedding, blankets etc. is Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile Soap (the unscented baby mild one. Cheapest place to buy this is Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements - Buy Discount Vitamins Online at Vitacost.com). It's super concentrated and all you need is a very small squirt for a full load of laundry (you may need a little more depending on the hardness of your water). Add some vinegar to the wash and you're good to go. I wash anything and everything this way and it always works better than any laundry detergent I have tried. Mind you, I don't have pigs so I haven't tried washing fleece this way.
