I read on a website that if you bake pine cones you can give them to guinea pigs and rabbits for chew toys. Can you use any pinecones? I have some and they have little sharp spikes and im wondering if they are safe.

Well we tried, my kids collected a dozen or so. I sterilized them according to directions and well, my girls could care less. Ours are the short squat ones. I was wondering if the long ones that are softer would be better. I do have to say the smell in the oven was a bit much.:yuck:

There are so many things they will chew on already, I do not think pine cones should be used.

Mine are not big chewers and I read that often they are a favorite. And as long as sterlized perfectly safe, read it on this site actually. In the end for mine it does not matter as they don't even notice them.
