    Bell Pepper colors?

I cannot stand bell peppers personally, My quesion is.. do different colors taste differently? My piggies seem to like them in this "colored" order..
    1. Orange
    2. Yellow
    3. Green
    4. Red

I always assumed no matter what color the taste is the same..

Also.. Are my piggies the only ones who have a color preference???

Divas! LOL. THe green are the cheapest. Followed (usually) by red, then orange or yellow. Your piggies have a discerning palette! My guys have only eaten green peppers so far. But alas, I am starting seeds so they may enjoy other varieties of sweet colored peppers this summer!

    Re: Bell Pepper colors?

Dory prefers Red to Green, and so does Twix.

There's is in order from fave to least favorite:

    A. Red
    B. Green
    C. Yellow
    D. Orange

I think red is the sweetest.

I believe red ones have the highest sugar content. I love raw sweet peppers. Green are the blandest; not very sweet. Red definitely has the strongest flavor. My favorites are the yellow ones. Sweet, yet mild. Orange is a bit milder than yellow but sweeter than green.

How funny yours like them in the same order as mine.

    1.Orange
    2.Yellow
    3.Green
    4.Red

Though i think it a tie between yellow and orange.
I love the yellow one the best

The thing with the peppers is that the more colorful, ie: green, yellow, orange, red, the more sweet they taste and the more sugar they have.

    Re: Bell Pepper colors?

I eat peppers as peppers sometimes. I'm crazy I know.. Or peppers and pineapple.. MMMMMmmm... Red peppers are a lot more sweet than green peppers. If you baked some pineapple and red peppers in some vegetable oil in the oven for a little bit, you would probably find that they taste pretty similar with how sweet they are but that their texture is very different.

They smell a little different too. I never realized this before I started feeding them to my guinea pig. Yellow peppers smell weird to me.

My piggies LOVE green bell peppers. They don't like red too much.

My piggie won't even TOUCH the bell pepper. I guess because I just introduced it to him so I'll have to start slowly now...

    Re: Bell Pepper colors?

My piggies typically love the red best. They seem to really love everything that is more like a every so often veg! When its a day for red pepper or spinach they simply gobble it all up! Green peppers take much longer to be eaten!

Has anyone seen the other weird bell pepper colors? Like white and purple? Are those safe to feed to guinea pigs?

    Re: Bell Pepper colors?

My piggies love all peppers, no fav's yet. But I am still new at this. We dont get red to often because of the sugar and I try to give them a variety. I am also planting parsley, cilantro and some other herbs and veggies to cut down on costs. my husband thinks I am in sane. But I just love these piggies so much

    Re: Bell Pepper colors?

All colors are fine, I just don't know the nutritional data for all colors. So I am not sure where white or purple would rank among them in terms of sugar content, etc. You could substitute the other colors for green/yellow a couple days a week.

So far my piggies have only had red and green. I don't know which one they prefer but I like how when Milk eats red the coloring from the food gets all over the underside of his chin and he looks like a killer piggy

My pigs love green but they don't seem to know what red is. I think it's too sugary for them.

    Re: Bell Pepper colors?

Yeah, I was just asking about the white and purple bell pepper colors because I'm growing some bell peppers for them this year in the garden and I noticed on the packet that there were all these other colors for bell peppers besides the normal green, yellow, orange, and red.

If I close my eyes I cannot tell the difference in taste texture or anything between the purple and the green. They taste the same to me, raw or cooked.

The white ones taste a bit like the yellow/orange. Not as sweet as the red! But not as totally flavorful as the yellow and orange. Never really tasty on its own but a great addition for color.

    (Hope that helps)

    Re: Bell Pepper colors?

I have 1 piggy that will only eat a yellow, orange or red pepper if that is the only thing left to eat.....Mr. Buddy adores the green peppers though. My 4 girls will eat any pepper put in front of them...or anything else as far as that goes.

When the piggies were at the vet for their post-adoption exam, the vet tech told me that the red bell peppers contained more vitamin C. I haven't substantiated that, but I thought I would share what I was told...
