    Sneezing pigs

Need some advice. Both my pigs have been sneezing over the last couple of weeks. We had Nugget to the vet and he was treated with eye drops and baytril however my 2nd pig, Fudge has begun sneezing as well and is now also on baytril as prescribed by the vet. The vet has said that they will treat for the next 3 weeks but beyond that they are concerned that there will not be as greater possibility of them recovering. They have a good quality of life at the moment but they are saying that they may deteriorate if they cannot cure it in 3 weeks time. I'm really unsure what to do. Is there anything else I can do? I feel like I've run out of options.

Did they say anything spacific that they might have? I would get a second opinion if possible. Other than that all I can say is treat them with whatever the vet gives you and try not to think bad thoughts. I hope they get well soon.

Have you made changes in anything in their cage?
I thought a change in bedding may cause more sneezing if the change was from Carefresh to Aspen for example.

    Hmmm..

I'd get a second opinion. Sounds like a URI, or maybe an allergy to the bedding?

    Definatley get a second opinion.

    Re: Sneezing pigs

The vet said they have a URI, they're not showing serious symptoms yet, they're still popcorning, also cos what with them being medicated every day I think they like the extra attention. I haven't made any bedding changes recently. They are bedded on fleece and oxbow hay in the pigloos so its not anything unusual. Generally they are very healthy happy pigs and even with the sneezing that hasn't changed much so it was a real shock when the vet said we might have to put them down if they don't get better. They have such a good quality of life. I think she was trying to prepare us for the worst.

I would see another vet, If the Baytril doesn't work there are other antibiotics that can be tried before putting to sleep

Get a second opinion. If it's not a URI but they're still showing symptoms it could be a heart problem, which is usually a very easy fix.
