Tubs would probably more suitable rather than a C&C cage, also a bit cheaper too. There's a good page here on how to make a tub cage: (broken link removed)

www.hamsterific.com is a good hamster site. They also recommend using plastic bins for housing.

Could this advice apply to a mouse C&C cage? I want to get rid of the store-bought cage I have for her.

Syrians are solitary in the wild and should never be housed with other hamsters because they will fight and could possibly kill each other.
