Please help!

I just got a phone call from one of my sisters telling me that my other sister called her today and is freaking out.
My neice who just went to Germany last week with her husband who is stationed there had her baby last night.
She was only 5 1/2 months pregnant.
That's all I know.
Waiting by the phone to find out more.

Just got another bit of information:
She's 1 1/2 pounds and her hand is only as big as her daddy's thumbnail.
I feel so bad right now.
My sister will have her passport by Tuesday and I'm wiring her some money so she can be with my niece and the baby.

I was a NICU nurse (and still maintain my NRP certification) so if you have questions regarding any of the medical stuff, please let me know. I can explain terms and medications and some rationales for stuff. Of course, I can't give any advice, but I can tell you in layman's terms what's going on.

And I'm a great listener. If you need to vent, just let me know. I'm here for you.

OOOH! I will send my best thoughts to you and your family. Especially the baby. Please keep us posted, and I think Susan will be a great resource for you. Just knowing what is going on and knowing what things means can help your sanity a lot.

Just wanted to let you know ... this may be reassuring -

Medical science has advanced so much that we are now able to save babies that would otherwise have been considered "unviable" as little as 2 years ago. And the US medical base in Germany is supposed to be excellent, with some of the best medical staff, so that's good for your family.

Oh Spiffy! I'll be keeping your family in my thoughts.

I do have an encouraging story to pass along to you though that you are MORE than welcome to relay to your sister and niece. My cousin Sam was born about 3 months early, about the same size as your niece's little girl. He was in the hospital for around 3 months. Sam had more than his fair share of doctor's appointments in the first few years of his life.

Sam just turned 25, and I'm going to his wedding on August 5th this year.

Keep your chin up and happy thoughts! Everything is going to work out.

I got a call at work today and the baby didn't make it.
My niece and her husband are coming back for a month after she gets out of the hospital.
It's a sad day but what doesn't kill us will make us stronger.
Things happen that we may not understand but I believe all for a greater plan and purpose.

They are giving my niece's husband a month's leave.
They are coming back with the baby and having services in S.C.
I was going to drive down but my husband says no because of the car.
I really want to be there with my sister and I don't think he understands.
I'm about ready to take a bus down.
Anyways, I have a couple of vacation days that I asked for on 24th and 25th, so I may see if I can go down then with my other sister.
