    Getting new pigs.

Well, I have talked to the woman about the 4 pigs in Chicago. I am going to get them all, originally I only wanted 2 but she wants them all to go. I figured I can get them and then re-home them if possible, so she doesn't give them away to just anyone. Know what I mean? I can afford to care for them all though.

How many here have 7 pigs? Do you have them all in one cage? I of course wouldn't keep them together till after quarantine. Here are some pics of the beautiful girls. The gray and white is my favorite.

That is excellent! I wish hubby would let me do some fostering but he's dead set against for now. I love the 2nd one's coloring. Beautiful! I have seven girls all in one very large cage (there was eight at one time). It was rough at first until the whole dominance issues were settled but they get along really well. Of course, we do get more grumpy around the time someone's in heat and if more than one is....well, there's a bit more wheeking but nothing major. Good luck and Congrats. Names???

They are all so beautiful. I'm a proud papa of 6 boars myself and I keep the place clean and the boys happy. My friend is about to get in the cavy slave business herself in the next couple of weeks.

    Re: Getting new pigs.

She told me the names, Cloey is the gray/white. Selena and Pokey are the other 2 names but Im not sure which name goes with which pig. She forgot to tell me the 4th girls name. I might change them though, . From the way she told me in her email they were in a store bought cage. She says she only has 1 cage left though but I thought she said they were all together. Then in anouther email she said she had 7 pigs all together but now has 4. I think the others were male. SO, I might be getting more than I ask for. She also gave them salt wheels and they are only coming with a water bottle, saltwheel holder and a hayrack. They look in good condition from the pics, hope they are healthy.

    Re: Getting new pigs.

I have seven. Soon to be nine.

I have four cages. Amelia and Nova are in recovery now together, Simon and Cali are together, and Mei, Maverick, and Sophie are together. Mable and Ani will be together in their own cage, then if I decide to keep them, be housed with Maverick, Sophie and Mei.

Once Amelia and Nova get better, they will be in with Simon and Cali. That will make two or three cages.

    Re: Getting new pigs.

I love the first one (though I also am partial to abbies )

I just added a few more to my group this last weekend and I now I also have seven. All I have to say is WOW is it A LOT of poop!!!! They are such a joy though and I am glad to have them in our family.

I do have two cages, but only because I have two intact males. You will need a very large cage, trust me otherwise with that many they will become snippy and the poops and urine will become overbearing. Make sure you have at least three water bottles, two good sized food bowls, and the kitchen area is big enough to accomidate everyone (that is where mine get the most crabby). When you serve veggies I find it is easiest to serve on a large dinner plate. Of course as you know you will need tons of beds so everyone has one and try to have a few extras.

I think it is wonderful you are taking them all in, they are all really cute. If you need any help or advice feel free to ask

They are all too cute! I don't have seven, but now I have four. The third one kinda looks like my Mo.

    Re: Getting new pigs.

I was thinking a 3 x 5 cage when I can put them all together, Im not sure if thats big enough though. I may just make them thier own cage and have 2 seperate cages. Actually, now that I think about it they should probably have thier own 3x5, right? I have plenty of cubes to make it, I just gotta pick up a new sheet of coroplast. Oooh, Im so excited. Maybe after quarantine I could connect the girls cage I already have (2x5) with the new girls(3x5) in an L shape? My bf is gonna kill me! If you guys don't hear from me after Saturday, thats what happend, .

    Re: Getting new pigs.

Just another thought, a cage 3 grids deep is a little harder to upkeep and catch the piggies. That would be a good size cage though, why not make it a multi level and only go 2 grids deep???

We'll send a search party Amber. Anyway that's good news. I wish I was as blessed as you to be able to have that many! You and those pigs sure are lucky.

    Re: Getting new pigs.

Amber when I had eight, I had an L shaped cage (a 2x4 connected to a 2x6). On the 2x4 overhung a 2x3 and then over the 2x6 there was a 2x2. I then had one ramp that ran up to the 2x3 and a bridge like thing that connected the 2x2 to the 2x3. They had plenty of room and there were four potties. I really like it but it just seemed to take up alot of my son's room. When we move, I'll probably go back to something like that.

Here's a pic of the old cage:
    The left side,

    The right side and

part of the walk way. Hope this helps.

Here's the bottom part of the new cage without the top level on it:

Another view of the bottom part.

And with the top level on which is a 2x4. The hay area take up half of the top level. It's basically a 2x5 connected to a 3x3 with a 2x4 on top.

My 7 girls are in one cage. We started with 2 added 4 then added 1. Now we have Doolittle. He is in here (the study) with us until he gets neutered. We will move his CC cage next to the girls (after his 3 weeks post surgery), after a week, do intros and take it from there. won't be until May! He is so lonely it makes me sad.

Amber, 3 x 5 is too wide. You will hate it. Go 2 by and make it as long as you can! L shape is great.

    I had 7 until I rehomed Finna and Oats. They all lived in a 3x6 -1 grid. A 3x5 isn't big enough for 7.

I have a 3x4 for my four. I like the 3 grids deep rather then the 2 grids deep.
