Re: Guinea pig labored breathing and coughing

He did much better today. He doesn’t make weird breathing sounds as much or cough.
I did notice one of my other pigs trying to wheek but it was just breathy coming out, no wheek. I’m not sure if that’s a sign of a uri but his breathing sounds fine and he’s acting normal.

Mochi’s lungs sound clear but his nose is still clicking a bit. But now one of his brothers (snow) is making a nose clicking sound too. Mochi is in a separate cage but snow and yoshi (less than 6 months old) live together. Should I separate them? I don’t want yoshi getting sick since he’s so young

I'm not a fan of separating sick pigs unless it's really a dire situation. They've all been thoroughly exposed to everything in the cage, and the separation just adds to their stress.

I picked Mochi up today and I noticed that he has white things attached to his fur near the base. I haven’t seen any moving and he isn’t itching but they’re hart to remove. I’ve also only noticed them on his head. What are they? And how to i get rid of them?

It sounds like lice or skin mites. The link above has information on parasites. Ivermectin is usually the recommended treatment, and there is treatment information on this site: http://www.guinealynx.info/ivermectin_topical.html.

    Would oral ivermectin work too?
And can I give it to a 6 month old pig? All of my pigs have it I just realized

If the white things you see are not moving, and if you have to pull them off the hair to get them off, they're lice nits.

Ivermectin will work, but you'll have to treat all of your guinea pigs three times, 7 days apart.

Yes, a six-month-old pig can have ivermectin.

    I'll change this thread title.
