Hi all!

Wookie is a little over two years old. His eye is changing a bit. I wasn't sure if it's a concern though. I know some guinea pigs have this. They don't look gross at all.

It's that grey bit on the bottom of the eye by the lower lid in the attachment.

Nobody can tell from that picture. Put him in the light and take a good, well-lit, close-up picture and post it. We'll take a stab at it.

Could be. It doesn't usually require treatment, but fatty eye (or pea eye, as it's sometimes called) has been anecdotally linked to heart disease in guinea pigs. As he ages, pay attention to any signs of heart disease -- excessive sleepiness, deep sleep, unwillingness to move, noisy breathing, etc.

"Anecdotally" may be the operative word here. I adopted my dearly-departed Texel, Maya, at three months of age. She had the beginnings of pea eye at that time. It did progress a bit over time, but never obscured her eye. The disorder is known to be self-limiting which means that it will only progress so much and no more. It did interfere with her peripheral vision and unless you approached her head on, she would whirl around and snap at whatever was moving toward her.

Maya died at 3.5 years old of pneumonia, but never exhibited any sign of cardiac issues.

Thanks guys. We have an appointment for his biannual vet visit in December. I'll mention it to them just to confirm.
