Hello,
I'm a relatively new piggy owner- (I had them as a kid and have had my current 3 piggies since May). I have 2 girls and 1 boy. They are all about 2 years old. My kid accidently put the girl guinea pig in the boys cage (I know it was an accident since it took 5 months for him to do it ;-)) and now I am wondering if she is pregnant? I honestly don't know how long they were together. It happened about 2 weeks ago and I didn't even think anything until the other day when I picked her up and noticed that her belly feels like there is a balloon in her lower abdomen. Not hard, but a definite sac like feel. I definitely feels different than my other girl piggy's tummy. However, maybe they are just chunky piggies? How can I tell? What do I feel for? Obviously she is acting healthy and not like she is sick.
Also, I keep reading online how dangerous it is and now I am scared. I am hoping they are scare tactics to prevent people from purposefully breeding their guinea pigs. She has never had babies before, as that is not our intention for our pet piggies, all of the advice I read scares me. Is it really as bad as they make it out? With regards to the fact that this was an accident from a 7 year old kid combining the wrong guinea pigs. *IF* she is pregnant, and she *cross fingers* may not be, then will I have time to take her to the vet if she's in labor and something goes wrong?
Thanks,
Jamie
