I’ve just came home from school and saw Chocolate limping. Her ankle is swollen and it hurts when I try to move her feet. I didn’t notice anything earlier today. It’s not red, just swollen. She’s still eating and doing well except she’s limping. Should I take her to the vet ASAP? (This is difficult for me because I’m a minor and the cavy savvy vet’s is VERY far away).
Here are some pictures. The first one is her healthy foot.

If you can't get to the vet for an x-ray right away, I would confine her in one end of the cage so she doesn't have much room to move around. Make sure the water bottle is low enough that she doesn't have to stand on her hind legs to get to it. And I'd watch her carefully to see if it improves with her moving less. If not, you'll need to figure a way to get to the vet for the x-ray and possibly a splint.

I’m going to beg my dad to take her to the vet. I know she can’t handle it for long. I hope she didn’t break her ankle...

I’ve just talked to my parents. They said they don’t have ANY free time until SUNDAY!!! I seriously doubt that she could handle it for THAT long! I can’t go there by myself as I don’t remember the way and my parents won’t let me. What can I do now?

Chocolate is lying down most of the time as I have put her in a smaller cage. She’s leaning towards the healthy foot.

UPDATE: She did improve. When I moved her foot the ankle wasn’t as stiff as it was before. It is also less swollen. I’ll wait till sunday and take her to the vet then.

Chocolate’s feet has healed. But she’s having another problem.
What are these gross brown dots on her fur? ALL of my GPs have these! Ewww...

Can you just flick the dots off with your finger? Or do you have to pinch them and slide them off the end of the hair?

If the latter, they're lice nits, and you need to treat with ivermectin. Get the 1% injectable or the ..5% pour-on kind -- you'll apply both behind the ears. https://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/threads/111160-How-to-treat-for-mites-and-lice

At least three treatments, each a week apart. That way, you'll hit all the life cycle of the lice.

I have to pinch them to get them off her fur. I’ll find the appropriate ivermectin.
I’m sorry for not answering your question, but there’s a large difference between our time zones. I’m likely asleep when you’re online and I’m also busy with school.

You posted six hours after I asked you but didn't mention the nits.

If they're stuck to the hair shaft, they're definitely lice. Treat them all.

@bpatters, unless something is screwy, that was a completely different member who answered about the hay mites. :)

It’s okay! Cocoa is 270g at the moment so I’ll have to get Revolution then. Will it be as effective as ivermectin when used for adults?

Yes, Revolution should work, but it may take more than one dose. Be sure to use kitten Revolution.
