Hi GP lovers!

Can you please give me your input on how many Guineas I could have in my herd for this size living area?
I have three ladies between 5months and 9months right now. The two combined cages equal 22" x 74" (11.3 square feet) and the play yard is 42"x 56" (16.3 square feet). Both cages have the door open with a ramp out to the play yard.

It's good to have so much room for your 3 guinea pigs. If they are getting along well, I don't know if I'd upset their relationships by adding more. There is always the risk of one or two not getting along and then you would have to split them off into pairs, or even keeping one single.

I would suggest that these 3 would enjoy more places to hide since their play area is pretty wide open. Something in the play area like a little step stool, that they could duck under and feel safe. I would also make sure to have 2 water bottles in case one isn't working.

Also, if you haven't already done so, I would cut an exit in the back of the pigloo. Guinea pigs love their pigloos, but the ventilation is poor. Guinea pigs tend to sit in them for long periods of time and they wee. The ammonia odors build up can cause respiratory issues. Also, without an additional exit, one guinea pig can corner another and fight, causing a face to be slashed. All hiding places should have 2 exits.

This is a creative setup with the 2 cages joined and the play area.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry, I didn't get a notification! Here's the cage after yesterday's Chewy and Amazon delivery! IMG_20200911_194310.jpg

Too much furniture! They need large flat spaces to run around. Also, hideys with only one opening are just invitations for one pig to trap another and get its face slashed for its efforts. You can probably cut another hole in them, but I'd take at least two of them out.

And what are those extra grids sticking out into the cage? They block off a lot of room.
