Pregnancy Is my guinea pig pregnant? I was told she was spayed!

This is my 2 year old sow Beatrix. I think she might be pregnant, but I'm not sure. I joined the forum so I could get some answers. She has never been around a male, and lives with my other sow, Winni. I've noticed that Beatrix is noticeably heavier and has been eating more. Is she just fat? sorry! Not very good pics, She looks twice as big in person.

How long have you had her?

Have you turned both of them over and compared their private parts to make sure they are both sows?

Guinea pig pregnancies last about 72 days, give or take a few. If you've had her longer than that and they're both sows, she's not pregnant.

I have had them both for 2 years.

I've checked winni, and she is a sow too.

Could there be another reason why Beatrix is heavier and fatter?

When I checked them, Winni's private parts did seem slightly larger though.

Pigs are no more the same size and weight than people are. She could just be chunkier, she could eat more, she could move less. It's possible that she has some medical condition that causes her to retain fluids, which would make her heavier, but if she's eating/pooping/drinking/peeing/behaving normally, that's not very likely.

The best piece of medical equipment you can have to monitor the health of your pigs is a kitchen scale. If you weighed her regularly (say weekly), you would know whether she's gaining in a hurry, which could indicate a problem. Or gaining slowly, which could indicate too many pellets, maybe. Or not gaining at all - just a stable weight.

Thanks for the help! Winni and Beatrix exercise about the same, and Beatrix does eat more. I am weighing them right now.

When I weighed them, Winni was 1.5 lbs and Beatrix was 2.5 lbs

This is what my other sows lady parts look like. Is it possible she’s actually a he?she is an abynissian guinea pig, so the hair got in the way.

But when you turn them over and compare them, do they look the same, or different? If different, please separate them immediately.

Here is Beatrix's lady parts While doing this, I noticed here nipples were very big/swollen.

The pics you have posted are taken at a less than optimal angle and are simply not clear enough. Take a look at the pics below and try to duplicate them with Beatrix.



LEFT - Male (boar).........................................................RIGHT - Female (sow)

Note that the boar's penis is a distinctly separate structure. The sow's genitals appear to be all one package and present a "Y" shape.

Well, if Winni is a girl, and Beatrix hasn't been with another pig, she's definitely not pregnant.

So why are you worried about her?

I am worried about her being overweight or sick

What symptoms of being sick does she have?

It's almost impossible for a guinea pig to be overweight. They're herbivores. Their being overweight is like you being overweight eating nothing but salads.

The very pigs I've known of that were overweight were fed too many pellets and/or had mobility problems and couldn't move much.

She has been hiding a lot more, she looks fat, has enlarged nipples, and she eats more than what she normally does.

How much has she gained? Are you weighing her regularly?

Are her nipples enlarged more than they usually are, or are they just larger than Winni's?

I still think Winni being male is a possibility.

I just started weighing her Friday after learning about how it can help their health. Her nipples are bigger than normal and larger than Winni's (like, double the size).
