Apologies my first thread is too old to post onto it anymore.

Tonight doing my nightly check I noticed blood in the cage so naturally I checked both of my boys and noticed blood on one of my boys paws but found no reason for it to be bleeding. Checking Sawyer I noticed a small amount of dried blood on the inside his nose I guess he must of sneezed so hard for something getting up there that he bled from it. How much do I need to worry about this?

I want to give an update on Sawyer this morning he woke me up for his pellets and morning veggies so his appetite is still in tact. He has had no obvious change in behavior and I looked around the cage after I cleaned it last night to monitor for any blood and there was none. I also looked inside of his nose and cant really see anything that would have caused this. I am still keeping a close eye on him and if he shows me any discomfort or having any issues at all I will be taking him to the vet.

I did my nightly check and its been a little over a month and Sawyer has started to bleed again from his nose tomorrow I will be calling an exotic vet to see what exactly is going on does anyone have a clue what might have caused this? Just like last time his behavior, energy level and appetite are all the same.

I have a rather strange question when you ever took your pig to the vet did you only take the one needing medical attention or did you bring their cagemate too so they would have something familiar with them.

Sawyer is back from the vet he isnt too happy with me after the vet gave him two shots. Their lab is backed up so cultures wont be sent out until next week. They did say his heart and lungs sound great he does however have some dermatitis which he was prescribed ointment and baytril for. He is 884 grams and they said that was overweight which I dont think that is the case

@bpatters I was wondering if the doseage of baytril prescribed is correct. On bottle it says 68mg tablet 0.2 CC twice daily. Also I need to get more critical care just in case do you think I should give him some even if he doesn't need it to just make sure he is eating enough while on baytril

If he's eating normally, he doesn't really need the Critical Care. But it sure wouldn't hurt him, and it has some extra vitamins and minerals in.

Take another look at the label on that Baytril and let me know what it says. A tablet isn't measured in cc's, so that doesn't really make sense.

@bpatters what it says is Baytril 68mg tablet/ #5 1 tablet Give 0.2cc by mouth twice daily

Weird. I'd call the vet and ask for clear instructions on what to do. You can't give a tablet as 0.2 cc -- cc's are a liquid measurement, not a solid.

@bpatters I forgot to mention it was tablets its now a liquid they made it at the vet

OK. There's no way to know whether it's an appropriate dose without knowing how much liquid they dissolved the tablet in.

If they dissolved it in a small amount of liquid, it's a concentrated mixture, and you only need a little. If they dissolved in a lot of liquid, it's less concentrated, and you need more. But if you don't know how much liquid they used, you don't know the strength of the mixture, so don't know how much is necessary.

It was a good amount of water I cant remember for the life of me what ml syringe it was but its not like it was you know 1ml

Think again.......the most common size for a syringe that you would obtain from a Vet's office is 3ml. Having said that, it doesn't mean that the syringe was full.
